Bedford Swan Hotel and Thermal Spa

This is a review of Afternoon Tea at the Swan. The hotel has certainly vastly improved the interior decor since I was last there. The afternoon tea was adequate but not thrilling. We arrived and had to wait some time for a server to appear -- fetching plates had been a priority apparently. We were called "guys". The whole point of paying for afternoon tea is to get pampered (otherwise just go to Costa) and there was none of that. The menu stresses that you only get two cups of tea or coffee. The sandwiches were ok, but Mothers Pride bread.

The location

The fact that I couldn't use the spa due to it being fully booked and it costing extra, my shower was cold so had to have a bath and I booked a king room which to me was very standard

The room was extremely comfortable and staff very helpful

Room was down with the service dept noisy and dark

They were resurfacing the driveway, and I felt like I was in the middle of it

The food is excellent

Very nice hotel, nicely finished rooms in a characterful style

The hotel is advertised as Swan Hotel and Thermal Spa. But it’s not clear during the booking process that the spa is a paid extra and by appointment only. We missed out on using the spa because it was fully booked.
