Hotel Alex Johnson Rapid City, Curio Collection by Hilton

Excellent hotel with large rooms, great mattress, walk in closet, historic hotel with many stories to tell. Nice Irish pub and rooftop bar.

Great location

The hotel's rooms are surprisingly modern for the age of the hotel. The room was very clean and comfortable. The rooftop deck and bar were awesome! I loved the view.

The room I chose ahead of time (nice corner room with two corner windows) had no working heat. I was moved to a room about half the size with no view. I got no apology from the desk staff which really made the experience bad.

Hotel Alex Johnson is in a historic, walkable area close to many options for food, fun and relaxation. I was cautiously optimistic about the room based on past reviews, but enjoyed the comfort and vintage vibes of the room and lobby. Irish pub next door and Starbucks onsite.

The rooms and hotel are in need of upgrades, but starting at 8am with hammering, sawing and I don’t know what else disturbed an otherwise peaceful stay. I mentioned it to the front desk, but just got a shrug and eye roll. I misunderstood that the hotel provided breakfast and that it was included in the rate. Starbucks had some breakfast options, but I spent $25+ for microwaved egg bites and coffee. Be prepared to spend $28+ per day for valet parking if you have a vehicle.

Restaurants were seed oil free, staff was great.
