Nixe Palace

We had eaten lunch here a few years ago and loved the location and the food and the staff. It was therefore a ‘no brainer’ to come back to stay. Well we were not disappointed! We were delayed a day for arrival due to a fatality on the road in U.K. to the airport. We managed to rebook for the following day from Bristol as Exeter had no flights until 3 days later. We spoke to reception to let them know and were so impressed when we arrived to find the woman we had spoken to the day before was on reception and she immediately remembered our name. The bell boy who helped with our bags was excellent, insisting that he explain everything in the room to us. So after a traumatic start the day before we had a truly impressive welcome. We chose a street view room which was really comfortable with a pod coffee machine with water provided. The TV has all main U.K. TV channels, the WIFI is very good. The only negative in our room was that we had two single beds put together but one was on wheels which drove my husband mad as he had to find things to wedge under the wheels to stop it moving. We always travel with ear plugs so had no issue with street noise at night but accept we were early/ pre season. The hotel is situated right on the beach with its own access. The bar/ terrace area is lovely with a fabulous view over the bay. The pool area is great too with plenty of loungers for when we were here in April. For breakfast there is a wide choice from the buffet as well as a table service menu for freshly cooked breakfast. The lounge/ bar area is really comfortable and most evenings a live pianist. Every member of staff we met were delightful, charming, professional and always cheerful. We have travelled extensively world wide and have been telling everyone we know that this is probably the most comfortable hotel we have stayed in. Despite the moving bed we still believe this merits top marks. Some reviewers have been negative about the area but to us it is fine. Its like many Spanish coastal areas, it clearly focusses on tourists but there is a bus stop across the road to take you into town, but we were visiting friends do didn’t use it. Plentiful places to eat if you want a change from the hotel and small supermarket a few doors down. Hotel booked us an early morning taxi to the airport and it was already waiting for us 5 minutes before the booked time. Again we were impressed. Would definitely come back, can’t think of a reason not to.

Stunning views , beach was gorgeous , staff very helpful and friendly , food great and rooms were beautiful ! Highly recommend ! Would definitely go back !

Nothing to don’t like

On the plus side, room had obviously been recently refurbished and was good (save for the stain on the sofa).

Very tired overall. Common parts had the ambience of a business park chain hotel with almost no redeeming features. Decoratively very dated. The ‘gym’ was a small windowless room with minimal equipment, no bench / mats, tiny free weight selection (10kg max) - designed to make you want to leave quickly…although when you did, there was no space by the small pool!

Hotel is nice, beach access is great. Rooms are decent. It is a cab ride to downtown for most activities. 3 star rating because we sat at the pool all day with 40 other people in great weather and no pool bar, no beach bar. We had to walk into the hotel reception/lobby (which is very formal) in our swim wear and ask for drinks. And the staff treated us as a burden. Everyone at the pool was dumbfounded that there was no bar open or even a server. It was a real let down
