North Lakes Hotel and Spa

Friendly staff, clean and well equipped room, excellent breakfast service and the milk dispenser was something the kids really enjoyed. There were ample parking spaces and tea and coffee provided in the room was great as well.

The pool facility, even though charged isn't very accommodating for young families because of the restrictive time slots for children. This rendered the pool facility unusable for us.

Spa facilities are ok however charged at £15 per adult if booking through Booking.com

We booked a Superior Family Room for a family stay, but unfortunately the room was well below the standard we expected and did not reflect the photos shown on Booking.com. The main concern was the children’s bunk beds. They appeared poorly maintained, with visible wear, rust staining, exposed metal fixings and damage around the frame/ladder. We raised this with the hotel and Chris, the manager on duty, was helpful and arranged for maintenance to attend. However, despite this, the bunk beds still did not feel safe for our children to sleep in. There were also several cleanliness and maintenance issues throughout the room, including dirty and marked walls, stained curtains, staining around the skirting boards and floor area, and a dirty mini-fridge with visible grime/build-up. The bathroom basin tap also had little to no cold water pressure, meaning we couldn’t properly use the sink. The TV also had an issue and was changed by the hotel, which we appreciated, but overall the room felt tired, poorly maintained and not properly cleaned. We ended up cutting our trip short because we did not feel comfortable staying another night, particularly with children. The hotel refunded our second night, and Chris was helpful in trying to resolve some issues, but the room itself was not acceptable for the price or for a Superior Family Room. Very disappointing stay and not the standard we expected.

The room was lovely and clean and a good size. The bed was huge and really comfy. Robes and slippers were a nice touch (although we did have to ask for these from reception, I think they were meant to be included in the room). The reception, bar and restaurant areas were lovely.

We paid an extra £30 for spa access, on top of the £466 we had already paid for the 3 nights. I didn’t mind the additional charge at first however we then discovered it was ‘designated family time’ from first thing in the morning until 11am and then 2pm until 6:30pm (which was when we were having our tea) so we only had 3 hours in which we could peacefully use the spa each day and even during this time we had plans so we only ended up using the spa for about an hour throughout the entire stay. It would have been great if we were informed of this before paying the extra money on top of the substantial amount we had already paid as we wouldn’t have paid for it had we known the time constraints. The phone and the heated towel rail were not working in the room (we didn’t complain about these as it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience but would expect them to work in a 4* hotel with the price we paid). The water pressure in the sink and shower was quite poor. I would have liked a bit more wardrobe and storage space. The walls and door were very thin, you could hear everything from the hallway, people in other rooms etc. The location wasn’t great, a bit in the middle of nowhere.

The property was excellent.

It was not made explicitly clear at the booking time that we have to pay for the swimming pool, sauna, fitness facilities etc. We paid to use the facilities but I would have e preferred to know it at the time of booking by booking.com. We booked 4 rooms and the check out time was 11:00am. We requested to check out one room 12:00 because one member of our party has to attend an online meeting and for privacy reasons it would have been nice to attend the meeting from room. Our request was denied and we were informed that we need to pay extra £30.00 for late check out.

The staff were helpful and accommodating. We travelled with 2 kids (5 and 2). Between us we have a lot of dietary restrictions, the restaurant and the staff were very helpful. The kids enjoyed the pool and the bunk bed in the family room.
