Coastal Inn Halifax - Bayers Lake

Room was good, bed was comfortable. Parking was where I like in front of my main level room with a door to the outside where my truck was parked.

TV was a bit confusing to turn on and use Breakfast offered was not so good for a diabetic I could only eat the hardboiled egg and the coffee tasted horrible. Sound carries in from other rooms and hallway so it took some time to get to sleep.

The bed was comfortable. The room had "new" features, but they weren't even fully set up or ready for guest use.

The hotel was under renovations and I wouldn't have stayed if i had known prior to booking. I had requested an early check in and it was not available, despite the hotel being very empty, and I in fact had to wait for them to finish getting my room ready for almost an hour after the regular check in time. Then I went to check in and there were hidden fees added to my reservation. Then staff couldn't figure out a basic transaction and had to call a manager, then tried to make me feel like they were only doing this as a favor, after realizing they had incorrectly told me something was policy. The room was not complete. TV wasn't set up so we couldn't use the remote or access streaming services. The locking system for the outside door was too complicated and didn't work well because it was so old. We struggled with the door the entire time. The fan was so noisy we couldn't have it on in the room but it was hot and no air if you have it off. There was mouse poop even though the floor was quickly washed (still soaking wet) when we entered, The features of the hotel weren't accessible because of the renovations. The breakfast was sad and gross. Staff were friendly but knew nothing and seemed to make up info. Not even offered any kind of comp for all the inconveniences and shortcomings.

Couch was gross. Lots of stains on it. The room had smell of dirty carpet and food. Breakfast was limited options for dairy free allergies. Shower pressure was mediocre. Expensive for what it is.

Updated and newly renovated Loved having the extra bed, instead of a pullout couch for the 3rd and 4th person!

The location is a ten or twenty minute drive away from Halifax depending on traffic. I went during construction so I am being kind by leaving it a three star review. I am assuming without the construction it would be less hostile. The front desk staff are kind. The room was mid and accessible. The doors outside from the room are convenient. The security is lax. It was by far my biggest issue with the hotel. Do not use an adjoining room unless it’s with someone you are with. It was noisy non stop and drug usage and smoking were issues. If it wasn’t for the front desk staff I would’ve rated it a one star.
