We stayed at the SureStay Hotel in Coralville for University of Iowa Parents Weekend and it was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. We booked months in advance and paid $350 per night, expecting a clean, comfortable stay. When we entered our room, the smell of cigarette smoke was overwhelming even though it was supposed to be non-smoking. The bathroom was in awful condition. The toilet seat was broken, the shower was dirty with hair stuck to the walls, and the caulking had visible mold. Several fixtures, including the light switch plate, soap dish, and shower valve cover, were loose or falling off. There was plaster around the tub drain, and only two towels were provided for four guests. Our refrigerator didn’t work, which forced us to use bags of ice to keep my son’s medication cold. I reported every issue to the front desk multiple times, but no solutions or room changes were offered because the hotel was “fully booked.” At checkout, I was told the manager would contact me about a discount, but no one ever followed up despite repeated calls and emails. For the price we paid, the room quality and customer service were completely unacceptable. I have posted photos to show what we encountered, travelers deserve to know what they’re walking into.
