The Castle at Taunton

I was SO excited to stay here, but unfortunately the room was not as advertised. We booked a deluxe double room based on the pictures provided at booking. The exterior of the building and communal areas are beautiful, but our room was extremely dated, smelt musty and was nothing like as pictured on the website. There was a plug in airfreshner to clearly mask the smell, but this did not help. The bathroom floor was cracked with loose tiles. The bedroom had dated curtains, dirty sofa cushions and blue carpet that was full of stains, which was nothing like the pictures advertised during the booking. That being said, the bed was extremely comfortable and clean, the staff were lovely and they provide a good breakfast. We thoroughly review hotels before booking, we even looked at the online tour as displayed on the website, and feel we were misled as there is no warning that not all the rooms are renovated as advertised.

The hotel was as hot as a Furness - so much so we left super early as we couldn't take it any more. The staff at check out didn't ask us once about our stay & to cap it off both the Hotel and the agent I booked it through have charged me for the room! I called the hotel & they basically said 'tough luck' call Agoda. Unsurprisingly Agoda are telling me that they had paid them for my room so they shouldn't have taken payment again. How on earth do I get my duplicate payment back? As with checkout the staff at the hotel couldn't give a monkeys! See email from Agoda asking me to prove I have paid it twice! I would avoid this hotel if I was you, zero customer service!!

Times may change, but standards must be maintained. The Castle does this in spades.

On arrival our room was not made up with 2 beds so we had to wait an extra half an hour for it to be done (we arrived at 6pm). My mother is 79 years of age and was tired. Neither of us slept through the night either as there was no air conditioning and had to leave the window open. The bar next door was loud all night. Worst night’s stay ever and the hotel is not cheap. The hotel needs a serious upgrade. The staff were nice though so I don’t blame them!

Stayed overnight for a wedding very comfortable

I love it here!! This is our second time staying and we absolutely looooove! The staff are always so welcoming and friendly and are always up for a chat it makes it so much nicer. The room we stayed in was overlooking the car park on a Saturday night so naturally of course there will be noise, reading some previous reviews I think people forget they’re booking a hotel right in the town. The staff are so helpful should you have any issues and extremely attentive. We will be sure be back, thank you castle for another stay❤️

Our rooms were of good size across the group of us staying, very clean and well presented. Breakfasts ticked all the right boxes nicely. Afternoon Tea was excellent and so was the Mendip Menu and we would highly recommend this hotel as a Wedding Venue as the event organisers and staff are second to none for professionality, friendliness, helpfulness and politeness.

We booked 3 rooms for 3 nights 7 months in advance for a very special occasion. When we got there one of the rooms had been downgraded 2 months prior. Our room was just given to someone else! The new room had a double bed rather than king size, much smaller windows, lower ceiling and a much smaller bedroom area. We complained and got just 2.5% off the total bill - even that needed the duty manager. At checkout rather than the bill being 2.5% less it was 5% more, because they changed the price of the rooms! This time needed the manager. What a shambles! Gave us a lesser room and then tried to charge us more!

Hotel stay - it was a nice old fashioned hotel with a spacious and comfy room. The only thing missing was a fridge in the room and aircon. Breakfast was nice but didn’t change daily. Nice selection of to-order breakfast items though. Afternoon tea - one of the best afternoon teas I have had. It exceeded all expectations. Every element of the food was at par with any five star London hotel. The service was polite and unobtrusive.

Well I have no clue how this hotel has awards for excellency for customer service, we stayed in room 11 top tip if you get this room refuse as it’s like your sleeping outside, the curtains are non existent, your next to the service stairs which has no carpets ! So after a dreadful sleep phoning security at 0205 asking why are the staff making so much noise. Morning check out receptionist ask how was your sleep I said not great we phone up in the middle of the night “ oh was that you !” The manager will phone when he gets in 2 days later send an email shocker no reply. Save your money there are so many better hotels for £200 a night. All that glitters is not gold!
