Baymont by Wyndham Marshalltown

Arrived around 1:30pm (3pm is check in). While waiting for staff to assist us, we noticed that they do not have a hot tub, it is covered with plywood. Even tho they state on the website that they have a hot tub. I booked one king room, upon arrival I was told that the room I had booked was unavailable till the following day. We arrived Friday and stayed till Sunday. I was offered a queen instead at a cheaper rate. I told the staff do whatever. I was also charged a $25 early check in, which had I got the room I wanted I would of not had any complaints. We get to our room and I notice the drain in the shower/tub is broken. The heating/cooling system did not work properly. It only blew hot air even when the cool was on. I reported this immediately and was told they will let housekeeping know. Saturday night we go to take showers and the we turned it as hot at it would go and was barley warm. Tried again Sunday morning before departing and the water was ice cold. We traveled roughly 6 hours, we were extremely unsatisfied with our stay. We will eventually return to the area as we were there for racing, however we will be staying elsewhere.

The soap dispenser in the shower was about empty, the door to the bathroom needed fixing, and I could not get the TV to function on live TV. We have stayed here before with better results.

OK place to stay.

Would NOT recommend this place to my worst enemy. Front desk lady was DISCOURTEOUS, NON-ACCOMIDATING and down right RUDE! We checked into the room at 3pm. Was there for 20 minutes to change our clothes for a family wedding. Upon returning to the hotel, we wanted to hittghe hot tub and the kids wanted to swim in the pool. The hot tub was removed and plywood was layed over the hole. Even though the web site stated it had a hot tub. The pool was ICE COLD and had an oily/slimy film over it. Kids were unable to swim in the nastiness of the water. Went to the front desk and spoke with the attendent. She was very unpleaseant and told us since we had checked in over 4 hours ago there was nothing she could do for us. After I explained we had only been in our room for under 30 minutes to just change our clothes, she stated again there was nothing she could/would do for us. She then walked away and left ius staning at the front desk alone. I then took my 2 disappointed kids upstairs, packed up our things and left. All I wanted was a refund, but she wouldn't give us one! This hotel smells bad, old and dingy. Our room was to be a NON-SMOKING room, but reaked of smoke! The bathtub was dirty and the door didn't close. Neither did our main door into the room. Very disappointed with this being a Wyndham hotel. Website needs updated on amanities! Would NOT stay here again! Will be disputing credit card charge too!

The room was VERY clean. Although older, hotel was overall nice and clean. Staff is very accommodating and friendly. Pool was VERY cold but was told they were having mechanical issues. Didn’t get a chance to try the breakfast as it ended at 9am and being on vacation we slept in. I’d stay there again.

The lobby reeked of weed. At the desk we were told we should switch rooms from a single King to Double Queen for the same price because the King was handicapped accessible. We said sure, then were told we’d be charged extra. It was too late to change our mind so got charged. She blamed it on the fact that we booked through hotels.com. Then the key didn’t work to open our room. Turns out they gave us the key to an already occupied room! Had to go back down to exchange it. The room was very basic - did not smell, but air was LOUD, toilet was dirty, and one of the beds had stained sheets. Glad it was a short stay. Breakfast was small and had 3 types of meat but no eggs.

I reserved a King-sized room and at check-in was given a queen-sized. Three weeks later, I'm still waiting for a refund on the price difference. The room was musty, the carpet was damp, the front desk staff were dismissive and unhelpful in resolving the issue of being over-charged.

Thid was out 2nd stay here in about 2 years, and this place has done a complete 180 in that time. Booked a single king room more than a month in advance, only to be given a 2 queen room. One could argue that shouldn't be an issue with no cost difference, but it wasn't the room I asked for and had no notice from the hotel prior to checking in about the change. The lamp in between the beds was missing a bulb, and there was also a small tear in the window screen. The air conditioning didn't cool the room down to what we set it for and run for a few minutes before shutting off, then running a few minutes, and so forth. The hot tub was closed off and no longer available yet still advertised on the site. The pool was advertised as warm but was cold and had an oily film visible on the surface. Toilet in the room slightly rocked when sitting. And the vent in the bathroom must've been broken, as the switch didn't turn it on. Only good thing about the breakfast was the coffee and bagels. Orange juice dispenser gave me orange colored water with a few orange colored chunks floating around. Hot food choices were either unpleasant to look at or tasted like water or reconstituted rice cakes. This hotel will no longer be considered when choosing a place to stay.
