Wildflower Hall, An Oberoi Resort, Shimla

Beautiful setting in cedar forest with wild strawberries and raspberries trail side, alpine flowers and butterflies. Delicious food and extensive menu. Vegetarian options were particularly interesting. Staff could not have been more accommodating. Enjoyed biking and walking. Only downside was that white water rafting was not available due to construction.

We had great expectations from Wildflower Hall : having heard rave reviews from a number of friends and relatives who had stayed there over the past few years. The main disappointment was the fact that the hotel now allows children as guests. The hotel had a policy for many years of not permitting children. This was changed recently and was not stated on the website. Don't get us wrong, we are very fond of kids, but we had booked at Wildflower Hall specifically as we wanted a quiet holiday. The second issue was that the dress code was not enforced in the hotel : again, we are happy to see and be seen in shorts and flip flops in a beach resort, but not in a place where a dress code is required. The pool and jacuzzi areas were noisy and crowded : the former, mainly due to the presence of a number of kids. The booking confirmation mentioned that the room included a separate seating area and an expresso maker : however there was no separate seating area, unless a single seater sofa with a table between the bed and window qualifies as such; there was no expresso maker. Considering the tariff and positioning, the staff lacked adequate training for this level of hotel, although they were very attentive and helpful. We had hoped for a quiet and elegant holiday, but the experience left us underwhelmed
