Garner Hotel Rotherham East by IHG

Really good location and the staff were lovely. We were more than happy with our rooms which were spacious and clean and our request for two rooms close to each other was fulfilled without problem.

Staff were friendly, bedroom had plenty of space and is in a great location . The bed was comfortable.

Rooms are very out-dated. No air flow through the rooms. Bathroom wasn’t clean (sink had old toothpaste stuck in it and there were a lot of black hairs on the floor) the toilet didn’t flush very well and there is a stagnant water odour every time the taps are run, that is very off putting when having a wash etc… Had to clean the backsplash of the dressing table, it had old coffee/tea stains on it, one of the side tables had a sticky residue on it and the remote controls did not work on the tv.

The hotel was in a good location with a pub/ restaurant close by also McDonald’s and Morrisons. The staff member who checked us in was friendly. We explained our issue to a different member of staff the following day who was not really bothered and came across rude.

During our stay the room had a terrible smell of drains. When running the tap in the bathroom this smell would worsen. I was constantly spaying deodorant to mask the smell. The flush on the toilet was also very poor and I think it may be blocked that was causing the smell. The room was dated and some mould was around the window frame. The first night was horrendous as the fire alarm went off 3 times and there was banging, shouting and swearing from guests which seemed to go on for a long time.

Check in was fine and staff helpful, noted that the carpets were rather dirty in places, breakfast OK although there were no staff in the breakfast area to start with, it was a while before they came out from the kitchen to issue plates for the cooked breakfast.

The location and clientele were rough as. There were people on my corridor playing loud music, wandering the corridors shouting and balling and cars outside racing each other all night. But worse to come, massive fight on the forecourt, guests racially abusing the security, police called and the fire alarm pulled at 3 and again at 5am. I asked for my money back and they agreed. Suspect if you were in a room at the back you wouldn't have been aware of the worst of it, but still absolutely a grim night.

The room was shabby with sticky surfaces tv worked but was damaged entry cards only work ed with persistence complained reception reset cards still struggled to get them to work I wasn't to only one fire alarm went of 3 times in the night 4 people were arguing in car park outside our room most of the night 2 lights in our room were not working lots of litter around hotel with the bin outside reception over flowing in the middle of the night boy racers speeding around car park complained reception we left after 1 night want a refund
