Red Lion Hotel Gillette

There was a lot of confusion on checking in. I had reserved 2 rooms for 1 night using Hotels. When I arrived I learned that one of my rooms had been given to someone else with my same first name but a different last name. Plus my card had been temporarily charged for this strangers room (for 2 nights). The night clerk (Aryana) discovered this mix up, and did go above and beyond to get this corrected. Where I got to my room it was very hot, and the controls for the AC did not work. So I opened the window to let some fresh air in and discovered there was not a screen for the window, so leaving the window open would not be an option. I was going to call Aryana, but discovered the hotel phones did not work. Aryana did find us a different room and also provided us with a box fan. The hotel manager did end up comping my room, and the billing issues were resolved to my satisfaction.

The lobby is where the Ramada spent their money, before moving on. It is very nice, and completely misleading.

I had to return 4 times to the front desk to get keys that would open my door. After the 4th time, I gave up and they opened my room from the inside door. The room was 80 degrees when I arrived at 3:00 in the afternoon and the thermostat was off. I turned it on and set it to 60 to cool it off. I went to bed at 11:00, naked and on top of the covers. The room was at 78 when I woke at 7:15. I can live with all of that. It was the least expensive room in town, and not the Ritz. What I can't tolerate is being offered, in writing, bacon on Thursday, only to be told that they had been out of any meats since Tuesday. I waited 45 minutes for the general manager, Willie, to show up, and he was both nice and relatively competent, until he wasn't. He blamed all problems on the ownership, and couldn't offer any relief. He said they hadn't spent a dime on the place since buying it. Sonesta puts their name on the property, but the units are owned separately, and one does not communicate with others across the country. His hands were tied, and I was Booking.com's problem. Well, here I am, traveling from Corvallis, OR to York Springs, PA by pickup truck. I am in Rapid City, SD tonight, and will sleep in my very uncomfortable truck tonight. Just thought you might want to know.

Staff and breakfast was very good

Feels luxury, but it's very budget friendly. We got a room with a balcony and loved just relaxing and enjoying the view. Breakfast was great, the front desk ladies were great. I was impressed by how fancy everything felt: their waffle maker made waffles with the Red Lion logo, how cool! There was a pool, looked nice. I hope to be back and spend a few days just relaxing at this nice place.

DO NOT STAY HERE!  ROOM IS OLD, DIRTY & IN NEED OF MANY REPAIRS. PHOTOS ARE DECEIVING.  FLOP HOUSE DUMP IN BAD NEIGHBORHOOD. We checked in.  Front entrance & pool area looked nice.  Had reserved ground floor none available, she put us on the top 3rd floor.  Back entrance.  1 old rickety elevator. Room was like entering a flop house on tv.  Filthy Dirty couch didn't even have a bar of soap in the bathroom.  Everything is dirty.  We went down & said we didn't want to stay here.  She said the room is Not Refundable.  In checking us out she somehow charged us an additional $50.  Gave her the room key & left and went & stayed at another hotel.  Does not belong on hotel.com

There wasn't much about the place that I liked.

A/C was out, rooms were smelly and moldy, staff was great but short staffed. When our very large group arrived to check in on Friday there was only one employee at the front desk checking in guests. American Veterans Motorcycle Club had made reservations and reserved conference rooms about a year in advance. There is no way that the staff didn't know they had a very large group checking in that Friday. Once again the staff was great, there just one on the front desk.
