Mercure Sao Paulo Jardins

The staff

I spent one night - in fact technically two as I booked an early morning check-in -  at Mercure São Paulo Jardins on a business trip to Brazil 🇧🇷. The location in the Jardins district - at the corner of Alameda Itu and Rua Augusta - is excellent as the hotel is close to some of the city's main business and shopping areas. It is also at walking distance from the iconic Avenida Paulista. In addition, the hotel is very quiet. My room was comfortable but not very spacious, especially the bathroom. The bed was comfortable. The room was equipped with all features that you expect to see in such a hotel (e.g., flat screen TV, small fridge, electric kettle, safe). The presence of a table that can be used as a desk was a good idea but the number of electric plugs around was clearly insufficient as I had to unplug a lamp to connect my computer. However, the main issue with Mercure São Paulo Jardins is not the equipment but the aging decoration. Nothing is neither seriously worn out nor decrepit but everything, starting with the rooms, needs a thorough refresher. I found the bathroom situation worse as the faucets were falling apart. Furthermore, it took me ages to adjust the water temperature in the shower. Check-in and service in general were good and efficient (I got a laundry order returned on time) although - like in many hotels in Brazil - it might be an issue to communicate with the staff in English. Breakfast was good. However, the restaurant area was quite small and tended to be noisy and overcrowded at peak hour, making the breakfast experience a bit chaotic. Fortunately, some outdoor tables offer a space to escape the crowd and enjoy a little bit of greenery in the São Paulo concrete jungle. The tiny gym next to the indoor pool opens at 6:00 am but only offer basic training equipment (indoor bikes (not in great condition), treadmills, kettle bells, dumbbells). Thanks to its location Mercure São Paulo Jardins remains a good option for a stay in this part of the city however it must do what it takes to keep up with more recent and / or up to date business hotels that I would probably choose next time.

Hotel velho, wifi pessimo, TV também, o regulador de temperatura do chuveiro pessimo também. Fiz a reserva com um mês antes, solicitando algumas coisas, que foram aprovadas, mas na hora não realizaram.
