"Deer Creek Lodge—some very good and some serious concern"

8.0

PROS Proximity to Columbus and yet feel far away Staff was excellent Beautiful setting and well marked hiking trails Easy area to bike-even without any bike trails Bed was comfortable, cabin provided a wonderful view of lake CONS Cabin could have been cleaner. Dishes felt sticky and grimy. Appeared that some screens were torn and not properly sealed. All the screens were quite dirty and dead bug-gy Shower leaked though the door was closed A few too many ants—including crawling on the toilet and sink in bathroom WIFI is weak. At this point, either upgrade or don’t offer it. Very slow and very very spotty service All that being said, it was a lovely get-a-way for two days that afforded me time to read, bike and unfortunately watch the news about the Allen, Texas shootings. I would consider coming back were I reassured that cleanliness standards were stronger

"Unacceptable "

4.0

Our room was filthy as was the entrance to the lodge. The restaurant was wonderful with great food and exceptional service. Water was brown which we were told about when we checked in. They said it would clear up. It didn’t. Was afraid to drink anything not bottled and took a quick shower because was probably only getting dirtier with the water. We have no issues with an older room but there is no excuse for filth. The men’s boxer shorts in the front entrance flower bed should have been an omen.

"Poor management’"

2.0

Played Deer Creek today...This is number 16 Senior Tee Box. This is pretty much what Every tee box looked like. Greens were pretty bad also. Breaks my heart to see this once beautiful layout in such terrible shape. This is how it has been since the State Park gave it and the Lodge up to a private hotel chain. Please bring our course back...!! ☹️

"Bad experience—out of date, poor service, run down"

2.0

Like others have said, this hotel is dramatically run down. It felt like the rooms hadn’t been updated for 50 years, but they charged you expensive prices like it was fresh. The bathroom had rust running down the side of the shower, a half falling off moldy shower curtain, towels that were falling apart, and moldy caulk. The bedroom itself was also filthy, and we never got a good nights sleep. The service doesn’t get better elsewhere on the property—dinner in the restaurant took 2-3 hours because of poor service. The hotel constantly told us they were understaffed (which I get), but they still charged me full price for everything. The construction also was disruptive—there was jackhammering type noises that you could even hear out at the back pool, and you had to walk through to get to anywhere on the property. Stay away!

"Great place to get away"

10.0

Deer Creek Lodge was just what we needed, a peaceful getaway. It is under construction but that didn’t bother us at all. We had a room facing the water and the view was breathtaking . The bar and restaurant had friendly staff and amazing food. At night we had a little wild animal entertainment off the balcony. We will definitely be back soon.

"Would not recommend"

2.0

Took our 2 grandchildren on a mini vacation to the Deer Creek Lodge. My granddaughter had gone last fall with her other grandma and liked it. So not sure what has happened to the place since then. First, so disappointed to find the indoor pool was closed for renovations. (Not mentioned when we booked the trip the end of January.) Our cabin did not have a lake view. The kids were disappointed there were no bunk beds like the photos on the web page showed. If you are expecting twin beds, ask. Since both bedrooms have full size beds. And 2 roll aways. The cabin was dirty! Carpets not swept. Hair in the shower and on the bathroom floor. Toilet obviously hadn’t been brushed in awhile. There is a plastic (looks like shower cap) covering the smoke detector in one of the bedrooms. Looked at the plastic cover. Said dust cover, remove before use! Only Three bath towels for 4 people staying 3 nights. Screened porch (full of cob webs), had no furniture. We brought the round table in that was on the filthy patio. Full of charcoal chunks. Only one chair for the outdoor table. Asked to be moved to a different cabin and was told by manager there were no open cabins. She didn’t even look to see if it was possible. The cabin next to us, with a lake view, remained empty all night. The wifi needed a password. Called front desk to be told there was no need for a password. Were told maintenance would be called. No one showed up the day we arrived. Called the next morning. Same answer. No password needed. Just use “guest” network. There was no guest option. Maintenance came while we were out. Still needed password. Went to front desk and showed the girl what options we had. Was told the network showing up wasn’t even theirs. Although it was the name of the modem. Thankfully maintenance walked by. He said the modem in our cabin did need a password and it’s on the bottom of the modem. Nothing written about that in the cabin. Does the front desk, which is in the lodge, know anything about the cabins!? Outdoor pool is suppose to be heated. It was ICE cold. Life guard said there is a leak and the pool has to be filled daily. Therefore, freezing. So no indoor pool. And outdoor pool too cold to use. Had breakfast in the lodge the day we left. Waitress didn’t bring cream for coffee, syrup for pancakes and waffles, or toast that came with the order. Milk had black specks in it. My granddaughters’ food was not brought out with ours and we were told by our waitress she was waiting on the bacon. When the food was finally brought out, it had sausage instead of the bacon that was ordered. The eggs and potatoes were cold. The Manager, Michelle, was notified. Who did take care of the issues. She was the only staff member we met during our 3 day stay who apologized for the problems we dealt with during our stay. The lake was beautiful. Beach is nice. Warmer than the outdoor pool. It’s a 15 minute drive from the lodge. There were some nice hiking trails. Plenty of wildlife. Deer, skunks, radon’s. And Groundhogs people were petting. Nope! The lodge is outdated and needs work. Over priced for all of the inconveniences we experienced. I would not recommend Deer Creek Lodge to anyone.

"Just OK"

6.0

We recently attended a family reunion at Deer Creek Lodge. We'd met there in past years and this time there was a noticeable decline in quality. We still enjoyed ourselves, but it felt like things had gone downhill. They're doing construction on the property, so it was hard to find the entrance. No luggage carts were available upon arrival; my husband had to hunt one down. The restaurant service was spotty--sometimes good, sometimes not so good. The dinner menu lacked a lot of choices. We were given an ADA room, which we didn't mind, but the walk-in shower was such that it made our entire bathroom wet, which was a drag. Room service never came in the three days we were there. Because our bathmat and some towels were sopping wet, I asked the housekeepers for replacements and they gave them to me off their carts. The worst thing was that a wedding took place in the third floor loft and the DJ was playing music that was so loud that we could barely converse with each other. It was really unbearable for anyone to be in the lobby or bar. That shouldn't have been allowed.

The room was clean. The balcony not at all clean. There were spiders and mosquitos and spider webs up above. Two chairs and table had dead bugs on them. We had them come and spray for the bugs. They should do that before guests arrive.
