MainStay Suites Dubuque at Hwy 20

I like the rooms, comfortable, clean. I’m usually there for 3 days at a time. Other customers set 2 large bags of garbage outside their doors and the trash stayed there for over 2 days, untouched by staff. Check out I waited 10+mins for help at counter, because of her kids riding bicycle in hotel.

Small rooms. 3 day old breakfast reheated and was not attended to by the 1 person at the desk who was not ever in the public view Doors damaged like someone tried breaking into some of the rooms. Toilet didn't flush without effort. Smell throughout the hall was terrible. There were dirty towels left by the entrances of individual rooms overnight from the day before. Nobody was ever at the desk. Check in involved a lady who didnt have the ability to communicate or smile. No receipts were given. She stopped my son and I and demanded the credit card while being on her phone and wanted me to drop everything to give it to her bc she must not have done something the first time. Used the washer and dryer which was more expensive than most. Dryer didnt dry things fully no matter how many quarters you put in. Had to airdry the rest. One of the dryers was out of order as well as machine to get softener, dryer sheets, and detergent. The whole place had a very dinge appeal and did not feel or smell clean. Only offered shampoo....no conditioner or make up remover and was only given a small bar of soap for the family. No room service came through the 4 days we stayed. Worst hotel we have experienced for the money. Stay at motel 6....it will feel like the Mariott compared to this place.

Dirty, run down property. First room we got had big blood stains in refrigerator and another in freezer. Second room had food and gallon jugs of beverages left on window sills behind drapes and tv not working. Third room we finally stayed in we later realized had a furnace in closet that would not kick in and kept cycling on and off every 30 seconds trying to start. I pulled disconnect and shut it down so we could sleep, but had no heat all night. Shower had hardly any water come out of head and wasn’t very warm. Breakfast had no meat of any kind. Just an overall nasty place to stay.

Checking in was greeted with an unfriendly individual who could not communicate or smile for that matter. While my son and i had our hands full of luggage she demanded my creditcard in the hallway of the main doors bc she didnt know what she was doing and must have learned while being on the phone the whole time. No receipt was given. The place has grimey vibes, outdated, and one of the rooms looked like someone tried to break into it and had holes in it. Dirty linen sat outside seceral doors last night and were still there in the morning. Used the washer and dryer which is cost more than most and didnt dry the load. The key cards we have been given have not worked all 3 times since we got here. The breakfast consisted of 3 day old french toast....and that is being generous. One of the beds didnt have access to bedding and pillows. Im sad that we booked our stay here. This by far is the worst hotel we have stayed at in the same class of hotels. No conditioner, makeup remover or body wash offered. No wonder they have a no cancellation policy.

I stayed there 5/16/25 & 5/17/25. The night of 5/17/25 they put me in a room that smelled like urine, dog waters sitting all over & the smoke alarm was hanging out from the ceiling. On the night of 5/17/25 there wasn’t any smoke alarm. There was a hole in the ceiling where it was supposed to be. Just glad there wasn’t a fire.

They were out of coffee at 8:00 am Saturday morning & had to run next door for some. I waited 30 mins & still had no coffee available. I wasn’t the only one wanting coffee.
