the bottom outside door on the first floor was broken so it was open 24 hours - my lock was broken on my door room 202 which the manager helped me using a hangar to keep it locked - the checkout person was extremely rude and insulting to me

Location was good

For the price. It was a bit grungy. Carpet was worn down. Bathroom wasn’t as clean as I would have expected. Pool area was a little crusty.

I love the linens at Holiday Inn Express. And the breakfast was nice too. The room was easy to access, and the staff was friendly. The whole facility was clean, and the grounds were nice.

The layout of the room, specifically the bathroom door to room door, is challenging. The doors open into eachother and if the bathroom door is open the room door cannot be accessed. The bathroom door also won't stay closed. The lock doesn't even solve that issue.

Always a nice stay here. The front desk staff are great, breakfast pretty good - hey it’s complimentary. We appreciate the coffee / beverage bar being available 24 hrs. The rooms are clean with comfortable beds. Having several pillows to choose from is nice- use one or all of them! Dove brand toiletries are provided. The kids love the pool!

The perfect place to stay if you have a dog and prefer functional over fancy. Good beds, clean, nice breakfast room, convenient location.

This property feels like one of the earliest iterations of a Holiday Inn Express — and it shows. From the carpets to the case goods, the design is firmly rooted in the late 1990s or early 2000s. At this point, the hotel is easily 12 to 15 years overdue for a full, floor-to-ceiling renovation. That said, not everything about the older design is a negative. In fact, some elements are a welcome departure from the sterile, hospital-like aesthetic of newer Holiday Inn Express properties. Certain tilework, along with the outdoor patio featuring fire pits and a barbecue grill, actually reflect thoughtful design choices that still hold up. Still, this hotel wouldn’t need a complete overhaul to improve dramatically. A fresh coat of paint, new carpeting, updated TVs (mine was an ancient 37-inch model from 2011), replacement appliances (the microwave smelled strongly of burnt buttered popcorn), and refreshed furniture and lighting would go a long way. Curiously, parts of the bathroom appear to have been updated. The flooring and walk-in shower are clearly newer than the rest of the space, which makes the lack of updates elsewhere even more puzzling. Cleanliness, unfortunately, was inconsistent. While much of the hotel — including the public areas and most of the room — was spotless, several issues stood out: 1) The walk-in shower had visible mold and what appeared to be hard water staining. The showerhead showed signs of corrosion and hadn’t been properly cleaned in some time. 2) There were extensive dusty cobwebs behind the phone and USB outlet strip on the nightstand — enough to suggest it hadn’t been dusted in quite a while. 3) The bed skirt had large, noticeable stains that looked like spilled food or worse. Either way, it was unpleasant and should have been replaced. 4) The windows open or partly open, which is nice. Except the windows are covered in extensive black mold and mildew. That's right above the air conditioning/fan. So you're likely breathing in all that mold and mildew. Amenities are fairly standard. There’s a pool (which I didn’t use) and a very small gym with a single, somewhat mediocre Precor treadmill that appeared relatively new. Breakfast is exactly what you’d expect from a Holiday Inn Express: sugary juices and cereals, oranges and bananas, packaged yogurt, a pancake machine, cheese omelets, cinnamon rolls, and both pork and turkey sausage. There are two Costa medium roast coffee machines. One appreciated extra: a complimentary local print newspaper, along with a good selection of tourist brochures — something many hotels no longer bother with. Be advised that the hotel only has one elevator for a three-floor building. If it breaks, you'll be forced to take the stairs. All things considered, this is an aging Holiday Inn Express with a few redeeming design elements, but it’s in clear need of updates and, more importantly, better attention to cleanliness, especially in the bathroom and with basic housekeeping details like bed skirtings.

The day we checked in the elevator was out of order. When we checked out the next morning, we were asked if a first-floor room was offered - no. the front desk person apologized profusely and gave us IHG points! The broken elevator was an inconvenience but did not detract from the fact that Holiday Inn Express is an excellent balance of price and a very comfortable place to stay if even for just one night. Well done Holiday Inn Express Walla Walla!
