Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham New Ulm

In town for a four day stay, checked in on Thursday afternoon. Room was ready, we needed 2 rooms, and we were placed next to each other, but not adjoining. Used the carts available in the lobby to bring in our belongings and all 3 carts had bad wheels.Made in almost impossible to use. Started with what has become in my option a hotel problem everywhere the smell in the hallway of what I can only assume is some type of vaping. Room also had a bit of a stall odor to the air, once we ran the fan and air conditioning, it seemed to help with the rest of the stay. Rooms are very basic, and smaller than most. No closet or hangers which were needed as we had clothes for the funeral we were in town to attend. Hot water was minimal, and the towels smelled a bit of bleach, as did the bedding. Unlike some current hotels there they did not provide shampoo/conditioner/body wash in the shower. Pool was unavailable, and mid day Saturday, the shut off the water to the whole hotel. With no notice, to fix the pool, but the pool never opened at any point in our stay. Breakfast was really appalling, not staff to keep the area clean, they offered a few baked goods. muffins, bagels etc, but did not have anything hot, except waffles (and only one waffle maker). Seating was limited, so best to plan to take it back to your room. Came out to my vehicle, after our second night to find a scratch on the back wheel well. As I understand New Ulm, has only a few hotel choices, not sure how Microtel compares to the rest.

It was in a good location easy to get to ....

The room we were check into had dirty towels on the floor and bed wasn't clean so we got a different room the shower was cold and garbage on the floor and the hot tub was cold .we told the person at the desk that it was unpleasant stay and she was very rude

The price was reasonable with a location close to a walking trail and restaurants. The rooms were humid, there were bugs in the rooms, and I was unable to get housekeeping even when I requested it. Because I was told the room would be serviced, I was surprised when I returned and I had to go find towels for the next day. I was then told housekeeping would not be in until the next day despite a housekeeping cart being in the hallway near another room.

It was a nice place to stay.

Employees were friendly and welcoming.

Room was very comfortable and clean, staff was kind and helpful, especially working with our need for an early check in. Great location. I'll stay again next time I'm in town.

Would appreciate some fresh fruit at breakfast.

The front desk agent named Nick was terse and blunt. He would constantly interrupt me while I was talking. The reservation system only showed a single night when our confirmation was for two. He initially told us we would need to change rooms after the first night. Then he entered our room at 1030 at night to tell me I hadn't payed for the second night. This upset my wife terribly. I ended up having to go to the lobby at that hour to pay for the second night stay. He threatened to call the police. He called his manager, and I had to ask them rwice to speak in English so I understoid what they were saying, all while on speaker. The manager insisted he would be in the next morning by 9 AM and would apply a discount to our entire stay for our troubles. We checked out at 1030 AM, and the staff told me he wasnt sure when his manager might stop in, even calling his cell number with no answer. We reached out twice but never heard back from the manager. Nick went so far as to say his paycheck would be docked if the books were not handled properly. We will never again stay at a Microtel lication.
