Super 8 by Wyndham Park Rapids

No-frills, spotlessly clean hotel that does as much as possible with what they have, despite what they *don't* have, i.e., no pool, no workout room, no fancy area for a big morning breakfast. But they DO SERVE a little breakfast, and it's not bad (waffle station, some kind of main dish like a breakfast sandwich or biscuits and gravy), toast, cereals, yogurt, fruit. One of the best things was the personable young woman who checked us in, Kim, who gave us good suggestions on places to eat, had a friendly greeting every evening when we returned, and in general made us feel like we were special guests. All the workers we encountered were quite friendly. The only negative was that we weren't aware that our room wouldn't be made up daily -- the small notice affixed to the bathroom mirror was hard to see so we didn't notice it until later. And by "made up" I mean have the beds made, trash taken out, coffee service replenished, and used towels replaced. We didn't need to have our beds changed or anything like that, but I do like to have a few basic services provided. We were there for four nights and no one from housekeeping came near our room in that time.

Staff was kind and efficient. Rooms were clean and comfortable! The individually wrapped cookies on the front desk are a nice touch!!

The woman at the front desk, Kim, was wonderful -- friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, pleasant. She made us feel like we were staying with friends. Also: The room was spotless. The shower was great -- hot, forceful. The towels were large enough and not too thin as one might expect at a Super 8. I was glad to see there was some breakfast offered, which, though not ample, was a welcome surprise. Refrigerator was spacious, and had a little freezer -- perfect to keep our freezer block for our cooler frozen. And a microwave -- excellent! Also, really appreciated the info card about some of the outlets not working if the switch was off. (Not an issue for us, but considerate to let guests know!) The beds were VERY comfortable, and the pillows were great. GREAT to have easy parking, too!

The room smelled odd -- a little damp and mildew-y -- but we got used to it after a little bit. We didn't realize we wouldn't get new towels or have our beds made up. No big deal to keep the same linens, but the info card about "staying green" was a tiny sticker on the bathroom mirror that was barely visible. Normally, I expect that my bed is at least made up (with the same sheets) and that if I throw a towel in the tub/floor, I'll get one to replace it, but it was clear no one ever looked in our room to check if we needed something. For the amount we paid, I don't think it's asking much to just have our beds made. Also, it said they would do our rooms after three days. We were there four days, and had no housekeeping service at all. So if there was makeup smudged on the wash cloth, it was because there was only one makeup removal wipe and I used it the first night. Would have liked a sheer curtain as well as a blackout curtain so light could come in but the whole parking lot couldn't see us. Also, the hairdryer didn't work.

Great place to stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful with information. Room was very clean. We actually opened the window for some fresh air in the morning. Breakfast was good as well. We missed out on the biscuits and gravy, but the waffles and breakfast sandwich’s were delicious. I would definitely recommend this place.
