Hampton Inn & Suites Columbus Hilliard

We booked this hotel for our soccer tournament weekend as we always stay at a Hampton Inn wherever we travel. We also had about 5 other families stay here. We find out when others checked in that the pool is closed. The pool is VERY important with a group of soccer families. Unfortunate that we were informed we won’t be refunded any of our stay (wasn’t asking for a full refund) but we were given the option to leave to go to another hotel without being charged. It’s a soccer tournament weekend, not sure who would have 5 rooms available for all of us to switch.

Property needs some upgrade. Room, flooring and bathroom were worn out.

Bugs in the room. All over in the carpeting. Had to put down towels to walk on the floor. Sticky surfaces. Reported this to staff but wasn’t even offered a “sorry you had a bad experience”, so not the best response from a customer service standpoint. “Upgraded” from my original booking to a handicapped accessible first floor room next to a remote outside entrance. Felt very uncomfortable about security as a solo traveler. Disappointing stay.

Our thermostat was inoperable. The first night it was 58 degrees when we returned to our room. We turned the ac off. I reported the issue about midday on our second day. At 6:00 o’clock Saturday evening a maintenance man showed up. He was not able to fix the thermostat and offered to move us. I don’t know if that was even possible. The hotel was fairly full. We declined as we were leaving Sunday and didn’t feel like packing up twice. We had to turn the unit on and off thru the night on Saturday. We would wake up hot and then cold. I reported the issue the next morning again, on check out. The clerk said the manager would issue us bonus rewards points. I reached out once since Sunday. I was assured the manager would apply these points today. She hasn’t followed thru. The room was sufficient. It wasn’t fancy and a bit dated but clean.

The ice machine on our floor was broken. There was a hole in the floor by the end of one of beds and they had just carpeted over it. Our foot dropped down into it when we stepped there. The beds weren't comfortable, pillows were uncomfortable too. The 3rd day of our stay, we woke up to ants all over our room. We hadnt been eating in there or leaving any foot out. The front desk said they would send someone in to take care of it while we were out, since they were sold out, but when we returned nothing had been done and they were even worse. They were getting in around the window. We had to check out and find another hotel for our last night. We have never had this much trouble with Hampton and we usually choose them, however, we may need to change that if this is how they are being taken care of now.
