Staybridge Suites South Springfield by IHG

This is a pretty typical Staybridge Suites albeit the suite was dated due to lack of device outlets, etc. It was clean, but I think the carpet could use a good scrubbing. Staff was pleasant enough - not thrilled to see me until I lit up and made her smile. Room was quiet and our dog was warmly welcomed - big deal to us. I would stay again.

My wife, my 6 year old daughter, and I stayed 9/2 - 9/4. Hotel seems nice on the outside and even nice on the inside. However, there were three issues that I feel the management needs to take to heart: 1) Door lock was tough to open. We tried pushing down the handle after swiping our room key. That didn't work. We tried pushing up, and until we almost lowered our shoulder to force the force open, it would not open...on every occasion during our stay. Maintenance needs to get involved to get it fixed for the next guest. 2) Carpet was not well cleaned in our room. All three of us woke up barefoot (obviously) and noticed by the time we went to the washroom and put socks on for breakfast, our feet were black. That simply is not a 4.2 or 4.3 out of 5 star rated hotel. 3) On 9/4, my daughter broke a plate before getting food at the buffet. The lady in charge of the buffet could not have been more insensitive to my daughter who said "sorry" to her. Some other employee asked her if another spill in the breakfast area was going to be cleaned up by her and said "I called someone else to clean it up". Then, keeping in mind the breakage happened at 10:30 a.m., when we were leaving on our late checkout, at 12:45 p.m., 2 hours and 15 minutes later, we walked by the breakfast area. and the spill was still there. I don't know what's worse...having no respect for your employer and passing the buck on cleaning up a mess or disrepecting your customers so badly by just leaving a spill where anyone could have slipped and fell....leading a lawsuit against the hotel. Besides these issues that irked me, I think the hotel is nice. I like the a/c ice cold and it worked great cooling down the bedroom and main seating area after showers. It was not hot and sticky like some hotel rooms are. The breakfast was pretty good. I did not care for egg whites as an egg dish on 9/3, but that's just me. I loved the bacon, fruit, bagels, and potatoes....I left full and happy. The weekend breakfast hours of 7:30-10:30 are the best of ANY HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED AT. It was slower around 10:15, so didn't get the "last minute crush" that occurs at other hotels near the end of the buffet, especially when it ends at 9:30 or before on the weekends. Parking is free and ample. Hotel's non-smoking policy was evident (no smoke smell and no jerks hanging right outside the door smoking). There is only one elevator and its kind of slow, so if in a rush, be ready to walk up or down from the 2nd or 3rd floor. The breakfast area, guest computer area, and front desk area look nice. Hope the negatives I mentioned can be improved (staff meeting telling the involved employee to "step up" or "get out" should do the trick.) I'd like to give it another try, but think at a lower price point. The pool is very well kept up, no foul smells, the water was a nice temperature, and lighting was adequate (though more lighting would improve the guest experience. The check-in process was easy and staff was friendly.

We tried to check in early and she said no rooms were available. Suddenly 45 min later at check in time I had the option of any room on any floor. Hard to imagine that all rooms were suddenly all clean at the same time. If you don’t allow early check in just say that versus lying to me. Very irritating. Went up to the front desk several times during our stay and no one was ever at the front desk. At check out the lady working the front was sitting in the dining area eating breakfast.

I liked the staff. They were very pleasant. The breakfast was nice. The Dove hygiene was great! Sorry to say but the pillowcases had mascara and smelled sweaty. The carpets looked really rough in the stairwell and the hallways. Their little "social" was nice on Wednesday evening.

Very nice facilities and friendly staff. Location of hotel not the best as it's in a semi industrial area but convenient for the highways.

They were very understaffed at check in with a crazy long line. Then the room had a very funky smell and the couch was extremely uncomfortable.

Pros: Friendly, accommodating staff; excellent location for proximity to restaurants, shops, and services. OK cleanliness, but nothing special. Our suite did have good HVAC setup with a closeted unit and vents high on the walls, instead of below-widow units that blow in your face. South-facing rooms have best potential for being quiet. Cons: Property is showing its age in terms of necessary maintenance and general wear and tear on furnishings. Dated decor. Bottom line: Not enough price to value proposition to make this my first choice for a return visit. Property doesn't stack up particularly well with newer entries in this niche given their tariffs. .

The COVID protection measures on the property were beyond minimal. The entry door said masks must be worn but only one staff member a cleaner wore one. They did have plexiglass at the front desks. The other 5 we saw daily NEVER wore masks, this included those involved in serving beverages and opening food during the happy hour. They were not eating or drinking as a reason not to. The woman serving the wine never sanitized her hands and never wore a mask the entire time. The facility seemed to be clean and the cleaning staff did wear gloves. The keys for the rooms rarely worked, we had to have them re-coded multiple times as did other people we knew staying at the hotel. Our actual room was nice, spacious, and the kitchen had everything we needed. We would stay here again, if COVID wasn’t a factor or the appropriate precautions were taken. As a pregnant person staying, I did not feel safe from exposure being anywhere outside of my room.
