check in was easy and it was clean

After the fire department told them not to allow anybody in the elevator because they had to come rescue them, they allowed us to ride(we had no idea this had happened) We were stuck in the elevator waiting for FD for over 30 min.

The owner went out of his way to get me a fan for my room after front desk lady coldly said no she couldn’t provide a fan. Air conditioning could use some tlc. One front desk staff may not be the right fit for a customer service oriented job. Stayed 4 nights.

Our stay was decent. However the photos online don’t show that the hotel is dated. The hallways smell very stale and the carpet looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in quite some time. We got to our room 405 I believe and it smelled strong of bleach. we had to open the door up to the balcony which was nice to air it out. The room looked clean. But after walking around for about 20 mins the bottom of my husbands feet were dirty. Like the floors hadn’t been cleaned in a while. Also you will hear everyone around you. The floor above was stomping around and the side neighbors blasting their tv. Our tv wouldn’t turn on. We tried plugging it back in. Nothing. Breakfast was typical. The eggs taste terrible but the rest was decent. Over all just disappointed that I paid close to $300 a night for a hotel that was kinda dirty and more dated than the photos look like with no tv. I do have to say the ac goes down to 44! We like to be cold and slept with it on 62 and it was amazing! Bed is comfy. I wish the pillows were king size but that’s no biggie. The parking is $15 a night. The lot is kinda tight especially in an SUV. and trying to get out on that road is quite annoying. But that’s how traffic is in the area always.

The location was great. Very accessible to both Pacific Coast Hwy and the beach/pier area. Breakfast was pretty good, with a little variety each day.

Elevator is scary noisy, hallways are kind of dirty.

The parking lot is tight especially for an SUV and is $15 a night which is decent for that area!! Check in was less than 2 minutes. Awesome. The lady was super sweet and polite. After getting to the 3rd floor we noticed the carpet was pretty dirty looking and the halls just smelled very stale… the hallways are a little confusing at first but you’ll get the hang of it fast! We stayed in room 405. We opened the door and got hit in the face with a VERY STRONG bleach smell. Luckily we had a balcony so we let it air out. The balcony was awesome! You can see the ocean!! After getting settled we noticed how dirty my husband’s feet were just from walking around in the room. So it looked like the floors haven’t been attended to enough. We got cozy in bed and it was very comfortable. The pillows seemed small of a king size bed. But we tried to watch tv. Didn’t work… we messed with it and it still didn’t turn on. And yes there were batteries in the remote and the tv didn’t have buttons. So we just played on our phones. There were lots of cracks in the walls. It just looked much more dated than the photos showed. The bathroom seemed clean but there was some water damage in the ceiling. Breakfast was just ok although the eggs were actually terrible. Did not taste of eggs lol. The AC turned all the way down to 44! Which is great we like to be cold. We kept it on 62 and slept wonderfully in the cold room!! Loved that. I always try to be honest in reviews good and bad so others know what they are getting into. No sight of bugs here. Have to mention that! I’m just a little aggravated I paid almost $300 a night for a room I thought was much bigger and nicer and cleaner only to be dirty and dated.

Parking was horrible

The problem with these reviews is that the rating is typically based on what people are used to. Trip Advisor needs to more prominently display the star rating of the hotel independent of peoples review. The 4.5 star customer review of this hotel is probably based on people who aren’t business travelers and maybe based on young folks who don’t travel much. The 3 Star Rating is actually more accurate and I’d suggest generous. Reality is this is an average hotel AT BEST. The rooms are dated. The room I’m in has a window air conditioning unit with no controls on it. It’s loud and had to be unplugged to get a decent night sleep. The hallways smell. I’m guessing it’s pest control. Decor is similarly dated and uninteresting. The carpet is stained and ugly in the hallways. The elevator sounds like it’s on its last leg. Chipped paint and dirty walls everywhere. This place needs tending to and investment. On the positive side, the room was clean and the bed comfortable. The room I’m unfortunately faces the Pacific Coast Highway, which means that there is road noise all night long. I was able to sleep through it, but woe to the light sleeper.
