"Good for a bargain non-business trip"

8.0

1) room was clean, with a daily cleaning lady visit; 2) it had most of the amenities western travelers would expect (hair dryer, shampoo, proper shower with hot water, television with an english channel or two...) 3) it lacked AC and in-room wifi. AC wasn't a problem with the chilly weather we had, but the windows opened to a noisy street, so it could have been a problem. 4) it's very close to the tran stations, good restaurants, and tourist attractions 5) The hotel staff were very helpful, especially Marina, who got us train tickets to Moscow on the Sapsan during the day while we were out doing other tourist things! Thanks! ... The hotel also had a nice bar and restaurant. ... Two things though, I would recommend: a) UNPLUG and THROW AWAY whatever machine (ATM, money changer, tour guide thing... whatever) is making the high-pitched whine that echos through the lobby. It makes the atmosphere of that lobby uncomfortably noisy! b) get wifi in at least some dedicated rooms. For western travelers, internet on our phones is now expected. Some rooms near the business center have it... more rooms should.

"Low soviet service for incredible amount of money"

4.0

Former soviet hotel was supposedly renovated. But floorings are creaks, no soundproof at all in rooms. When I awoke I detected cigarette smell from corridor inside my room - that was disgusting! I had non-smoke room. Moreover, I don't like have my room to be cleaned if I stay 1-2 nights, don't like housekeeping to get inside. And I always put "don't disturb" sign. In this case I did the same, but my room was cleaned anyway.

"nice budget hotel for low price"

8.0

1) Hotel Oktiabrskaya 10/118 is roughly twice better than Hotel Oktiabrskaya near Moscow railroad station 2) It is not really 4 star hotel, it is more like 3 star budget hotel. 3) got a quiet room near the backyard, so noise was not a problem It might be a very nice hotel/price if you know exactly what you will get and what not. pro: 1) nice location, specially if you will have to travel a lot: ( subway station "Ploshad' Vosstaniya is a cross-road of many subways lines) 2) large room, so you could relax in your room 3) very nice cleaning service 4) Nice building 5) Huge food mart Stockmann is 5 min walking near the subway station 6) room have a small fridge 7) Plenty of nice place around for food con: 1) small beds, so you better order 2 beds to have a nice size bed to sleep 2) no coffe-maker in room 3) small-old TV~ 20 years old 4) no WiFi in the room, even for $ 5) Heavy smell of smoking in the building and in my floor (I had the non-smoking room) 6) There are only one person ob front desk. If group is standing before you, you could easily spend 1/2 hours before get any service 7) Bar in lobby is small and have only smoking place 8) you better do not use Shampoo and soap which will be in your room Overall: if you really after comfort which can be provided by typical 4star US hotel, I would advice to stay in new Marriott Hotel in Vasilyevsky islend, near Black river (Chernaya rechka), 10 min walking from Vasilevskij ostrov subway station. It really fit all American standards for ~ 1/3 increment in price compared to Octyabrskaya. If you have a family vacation, or romantic trip, and could afford this, do not stay in Octyabrskaya. However if you like to save and still get a good quality for your $, Octyabrsaya would be in the priority list, as there are many hotels in St. Pit which does not provide even such basic comfort. If you are enjoy to stay in creepy hotels like "Holidays In" in Manhattan, you would be absolutely in love with Octyabrskaya hotel. I have a short business trip, with limited funding and I was pretty happy with what I obtain per modest price.

"Great location, uncared building"

Don't ask to call a taxi from the hotel. Extremely expensive. Just go outside and raise your hand for taxi, its cheaper.

"Basic but reasonably enough"

8.0

This a hotel designed in Soviet times and it keeps the same austere look and service level that it probably had at that times. The main advantage is that it's price/quality ratio is good and it's location is quite good: 5 minutes from the RR station, plenty of public transport available, trolley, buses, metro, and at one end of the "main" road (Nevtky Prospect)

"stopover in Peterburg"

8.0

so convenient to the train station! excellent taxi service to the airport (and fast, at 3 a.m. - less than 30 minutes). but not a room I would hang out in...not comfortable or luxurious or built for that. just hang your hat, and get out into Nevsky Prospekt, and enjoy this city!

"St. Petersburg Hotel Review "No Customer Service""

6.0

Hotel staff was not speaking English. With their little English, they were extremely rude and not willing to help with your questions/requests. On the other hand, location of the hotel was very good. In the middle of everything. We were told that our booking didn't include the breakfast, even though I booked it online with breakfast included. They acted very rude!!!

"Clean, safe, great location, but not 4 star"

8.0

This is a great hotel for someone who wants to spend time in the city, not in the hotel room. Clean, safe, 2 metro stops/walking distance to Hermitage, blocks from train station. Helpful, English-speaking staff. Just don't expect 4-star amenities.
