Magnolia Hotel Houston, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Great location, beautiful property, and spacious, clean rooms! We loved being within walking distance of everything or using the free 1-mile shuttle. The complimentary happy hour and nightly milk and cookies were delicious perks. Our only complaint was the rooftop pool, which was unexpectedly closed without warning. The front desk even gave us the pool hours at check-in without mentioning it was shut down. Despite the poor communication regarding the pool, we would absolutely go back to finally try it out and highly recommend this stay!

Location, room was clean

The AC was sub-par, we even changed rooms. It was hot and humid the entire stay, even in the hallways. I'm from Houston and have stayed here several times over the past 20 years and I was put off with the ac issue, it's June in Houston and trying to get dressed with make up for a special event in a sauna like environment is just unacceptable. Additionally, the bathtub was strangely small on the interior, even though it looked nice from the exterior. Very slippery, nearly injured myself trying to shave my legs. We ordered 2 meals with room service and both were small portions, no trays and mediocre, at best. Overall, the price per night and $$ for amenities was waaaayyyy too much. The bar was sad and the billiard table and pool cues could have been picked up from Goodwill the day before. All were probably nice 10 yrs ago. Also, very sad This hotel used to be MUCH nicer. I have observed a marked downturn in quality from the last time I stayed here about 4 years ago. Might as well stayed at a Motel 6. $480/night.....LOL. never again. Checked out the Lancaster while attending a function at Jones Hall and it is MUCH nicer and located with even better access to Theater and Toyota Center for concerts. Very, very disappointing birthday present for my Boyfriend this weekend.

Overall, an okay hotel. It was a 10 minute walk from my venue, which is why I chose this hotel. Pros: - I was generously upgraded to a suite. Very large room but definitely on the dated side. - Restaurant staff are very friendly and the food was good. - There is a house car available for use within a small radius. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to use it. - They have a package where they will provide two monitors, keyboard, mouse and docking station which was great for working in the room. Cons: - the pool is very small and not many chairs. It is not a serviced pool, so no food or beverage available. - Housekeeping is slow. And when they did service it, they emptied the trash and replaced towels but it was not a full servicing of the room. However they were very friendly and made sure the room was stocked with lots of towels and water. - Large amount of homeless people outside the hotel. One even tried to follow me into the hotel (but he was stopped by hotel security) The price was definitely good value for money though. If the price is right, I would consider staying again, but I would also look at other options.
