The Galmont

Clean modern hotel which was reasonably priced.

Overpriced for what it is. The balcony door was broken and would not lock, and air and noise could filter in from the top. Despite mentioning it upon checking in, it was never fixed during our 2 nights there. Size of room and views were nice, but balcony had pigeon droppings and cigarette butts. The bathroom tiles under the shower were rusted and the toilet kept running after flushing and required multiple pushes for it to stop. It just had a feeling of not being maintained or cleaned. The location is very convenient for walking to the main attraction area of Galway and it does have an underground garage, which is convenient, and for which you get a discounted rate. The buffet breakfast is not worth it--there are many good coffee shops within walking distance.

Only complaint was that we had to be in a handicapped room because other kings were full. Bathroom was not sufficient.

A great location and great amenities. There during the horse races so it was very busy. the staff did a great job of making sure things worked efficiently. The proximity to the train and coach stations was a real plus.

The property was OK. It was very noisy. The shower was horrible. It took me a long time to figure out how to work and then continued to blast water in my face and all over the bathroom. The toilet ran all night long

Really appreciated the space in the room. Amazing bed and plenty of room to open suitcases. Shower seemed to operate differently to all the others we have experienced. Difficult to control temperature. Aircon excellent. Location in a quiet part of town but with easy access to railway and bus stations. Lots of choice at breakfast. The only negative was after checking in a member of staff (bot from reception but with a uniform) came in the lift and helped us to access our floor but when we got out we were actually on the wrong floor and she disappeared in the opposite direction. Had to go back down and start again. Left us with a bad feeling.

The Galmont has a good location and some nice design features to the hotel, including a very nice outdoor terrace area that overlooks the water. What the Galmont is lacking it is a proper level of service with their wait staff. On two separate occasions, we waited to be seated, and then to even get a menu for an excessive period of time when there were very few customers in the restaurant. Meanwhile, we could see wait staff standing about and chatting with each other. The same lack of attention to detail issues came into play in our room. We were staying there for two nights and on the first day that we came back to the hotel from being out for the day, we had no toilet paper. Also on that same day, the bathroom had not been cleaned properly. There was an automatic touchscreen for a light on the mirror that I had pushed the button on, and then you could see where the fingerprints were with toothpaste on them. My son and I had been in Ireland for two weeks and we wished we had skipped this stop. On the second day that we stayed there several large tour buses pulled up, dropping a large number of people off for a convention that basically overtook the hotel. Everything was loud and crowded. This hotel was a big disappointment in every respect, respect, find somewhere else to stay in Galway.

I was SO disappointed by this hotel. We booked 2 superior rooms (one with sea view) for 2 nights, but checked out after one. The hotel’s 4 stars must be for its location & amenities. The rooms were SO basic, dated and poorly maintained. The bathrooms looked like they belong in an abandoned hospital, with the same eerie fluorescent lighting. The hotel tries to be upscale, but looks like it hasn’t been touched since the 80’s. The communal area wasn’t much better & overall, I just wouldn’t trust the cleanliness of this hotel.

Location is ok with ample parking. Shower design is terrible on many levles. Small glass leaves bathroom soaked, sprayer nozzle spins all over spraying bathroom, raised tub makes shower very short and no fan leaves it a steamy mess. AC barley works and thats not ideal in summer. Also 15 minute walk to anything with homeless and bis and train station out front. Amenties like hot tub and pool close at 9. Be nice to be open later to enjoy after a long day in the city.
