Superb location near Malelane gate and overlooking the Crocodile river. The good points were the the waiting staff were very helpful and friendly, as were the security staff on the gate. The breakfasts at the buffet were really good and, again, the staff were lovely. Dinners were a bit haphazard. If it was a buffet dinner, the selection was good. If there weren't enough people staying in the evening, they went to a set menu which was only average. The salad starter was generally not wonderful, a few salad leaves, tasteless tomatoes and a few other bits. The worst bit of the food side was the breakfast box on the morning of our departure. Previously this has contained a sandwich, a muffin, a packet of crisps, an energy bar, a piece of fruit and a carton of drink. This time, we got two slices of dry bread, a small pat of butter, one tiny piece of sweaty, rubbery cheese and an apple, not even a drink. To say it was disappointing is a huge understatement. I took a photo of the contents and intended to send it to the hotel but think it is pointless as they won't reply.

The room was looking very shabby and didn't look very clean. On the bathroom wall there was a long brown streak coming down from the roof which was almost certainly bat poo as we could hear bats squeaking the roof above. We love bats but if you have them above a hotel room you certainly need to keep on top of the cleaning. The cupboard containing the mini fridge had doors where the wood was peeling off and they wouldn't close properly. The bath was looking stained and dated. The worst thing was that one of the electric sockets on the wall was completely loose, hanging off the wall, even though it had appliances plugged into it. This is clearly not safe. We reported it and it was eventually sorted out. We then noticed on the day we were leaving that the same socket had two appliances (desk lamp and hair dryer) wired into one plug. Again, we're pretty sure this is not a safe practice. We constantly had to ask for things to be done. Each day something was missing from the room - toiletries, bottles of water, even toilet rolls, so we had to go to reception and ask for these. They did sort these things out but in what I believe is supposed to be a 4* hotel, you really shouldn't have to chase things. The final day we got back and our room hadn't been serviced at all. Beds unmade, towels unchanged, nothing topped up. I rang reception who didn't know anything about it. They sent someone from housekeeping who didn't know what had happened either though he did immediately start cleaning the room and was very apologetic. Something was said about the room key having been lost but surely if that was the case they could have done something about it or at least left a message on our door to say there was a problem? We spoke to Hellen, Guest Services Manager, about it - she apologised and said she would find out what had gone wrong and email us. Needless to say, we have received nothing from her at all.

The property is nice and close to Malenane Gate with easy access to the Kruger Park.

Dinner was definitely below standard, especially considering the high prices. The lamb chops were mostly bone and fat, and the cheesecake was nothing like an actual cheesecake. At the breakfast you were limited to the offered sparkling wine and were asked to mix it with orange juice to not consume too much??? First time I have experienced this.The room was not cleaned properly, with items from previous guests still left in the fridge. The view overlooking the little stream was disappointing, as it was littered with plastic rubbish. There was no toilet paper provided and only one set of towels available.

Best interior

- Établissement très bien situé, avec une vue magnifique sur la rivière. - Personnel très agréable, surtout à la restauration. - Cuisine très bonne.

- Ma chambre n’était pas entièrement prête à mon arrivée. Nous étions 4 et la chambre avait été préparée pour 2 personnes uniquement. - Un rasoir usagé était présent dans la douche à mon arrivée … - Le sol n’était pas lavé … En marchant 5 minutes pieds nus, vous pieds deviennent sales … - Plusieurs fuites dans la salle de bain : douche et baignoire … - La piscine est très sale… À 230 euros la nuit, c’est pour moi inadmissible …
