"Wretched poor service; staff in over their heads"

The experience was flat out horrible. We were given keys to our room; when we opened the door we found that someone was still in bed watching television. The front desk apologized and gave us keys to another room, which was also occupied. At this point we were asked to wait until they “figured it out” which involved ignoring us for 20 minutes until we decided to find somewhere else to stay.

"I will never stay at Best Western St. Louis Kirkwood Route 66 again."

Many of the staff were friendly, but mainly from the kitchen or from housekeeping.

We checked into the hotel in the evening. The next day we were out of the room. When we arrived later in the afternoon, we came to the room to find that it was not made up. I went to the front desk directly and asked if the room could be made up. The response by the woman at the from desk surprised me. She informed me that it was too late, and that you have to ask the night before for he room to be made up the following day. Now, my question is this: If there are no signs or information given, or questions asked of the guests at the time of check in, then how are we supposed to know that this is a hotel policy? If you are only staying one night, then of course it is not an issue. However, it would seem to me that it makes good business sense not to do that to guests who are staying multiple nights. The woman at the front desk informed me that "in this hotel, this is how it is done". I have always stayed in Best Western Hotels because I could count on good quality rooms and friendly personnel. Instead, I was made to feel like I was asking for the moon. Further excuses were made by informing me that there were only 3 housekeeping staff. I was able to get the front desk to at least give me new towels. She gave me a plastic bag and told me that I would have to bring the old towels down to her! Unbelievable! The hotel also has a pool. However, at the time we stayed it was algae filled and unusable. I have never experienced this level of hospitality in any hotel in the United States or abroad. Perhaps Best Western, or this hotel should consider upping the level of comfort for those guests who are staying more than just one night. Otherwise, its "Just Western".
