Tapa in the bathroom need attention. 2 taps out of 4 spin. They need tightening so they can be used properly.

Really friendly and professional staff, nothing was too much trouble. The room was comfortable and had everything I needed. The bar seemed excellent value in these times of inflated prices. Breakfast was well cooked and there was a very good selection of cereals etc. Breakfast service was excellent. The building is magnificent if a little dated. The grounds are well worth a wander, especially as they take you to the Coast to Coast footpath.

The building needs work. The general decoration is tired but quaint, but there are areas that really need addressing (plywood covering damaged ceilings etc). Hotels need to be inclusive, so I was surprised to find GB news playing in the bar during the evening of my stay. GB news and similar shows from all sides of politics are divisive and should not be on display at a hotel that will likely have people who would find it offensive. I assume that staffing could be increased at short notice if the hotel got busy. There only appeared to be two people covering reception/bar/food service/cooking/housekeeping. They did a great job though.

The hotel was ideal for a one-night stain the Coast to Coast Walk. Room was spacious and clean, staff were friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were good.

The place needs a bit of money spending on it. Peeling paintwork in parts, a shower that kept dripping after it was turned off. But that didn't stop us appreciating it.

Lovely staff! Rachel was fantastic in accommodating our group.

Seemed a bit understaffed in the morning. Same person checking people out was also trying to keep the breakfast going.

The staff at the Ennerdale Country House made the experience an exceptional one; nothing was too much trouble for them and they were especially polite and helpful. The "Ennerdale" room was lovely and quiet; the bed was comfortable, facilities adequate and the view of the grounds pleasant. The location of the hotel is also a boon, close to Whitehaven, Keswick, Grasmere and Ambleside.

The evening meal was reasonable - but not exceptional. Some items on the menu which our group wanted were not available. The starters were all delicious but some of the main courses needed more depth and richness, especially the mushroom stroganoff which was a little bit bland and could be improved with sour cream, white wine and garlic. Also, although breakfast was delicious, more enjoyable, and the quality of the food much improved, the ramekin container for the baked beans was absolutely tiny and must have contained a single spoonful of beans which was a bit inadequate. Never have I had such a small portion of beans with my breakfast. The front of the hotel, externally, needs some work. First impressions were not good ( until you get inside ). This is purely cosmetic; old paint work which needs a refresh, large rust lines from the metal hanging pots, masonry in poor condition. This is a shame as the building itself is beautiful and you really appreciate it once you get inside. It just needs a bit of love and attention.
