The food was very good. All staff were very friendly.

Nothing really. The hotel is starting to look a little bit tired.

Convenient location for work

The room was tired with furniture that should be in a charity shop, the window was filthy, peeling paint and mastic in the bathroom, corroded taps, worn carpet. The bar was dismal, food expensive £21 for sausage egg and chips and the gammon was inedible. Staff dealing with a large group, clearly a solo traveller was just a nuisance. Peeling rendering on the building.

A bit too many spiderwebs all around, in need of a refreshment but still cosy and beautiful.

The bed was very comfy, staff nice , lovely fire and. atmosphere Location good close to Ennerdale Lake . Restaurant food and bar very good.

Bath didn’t work Had packed lunch but appeared pricey for what was in it and no fruit .

This hotel is brilliant. I know the outside looks a little dated and could do with a lick of paint, but for a property built in around 1830 I would like to look as good at that age. Firstly I would like to thank Rachel for helping us on Sunday 26/10/25 when we checked in at the hotel. We had an extra guest, my friends grandson (who, with 2 others where meant to be camping and hiking about 30 miles away from the hotel), he was feeling too poorly to do the hike and we needed to see if room was available for him. She was an angel and a room was sorted for him. Again, she was a tower of strength when the weather made it impossible for my friends grandsons to complete their hike and nights camping, so we drove off, picked them up and brought them back to the hotel. Rachel was impressive and managed a little magic and another room was sorted for the 2 young lads. SO A VERY BIG THANK YOU RACHEL. Now about the hotel - when we arrived there was a roaring fire in the lovely old reception area giving a welcome atmosphere to the vestibule area. Comfortable chairs around the fire allowed guests to chill out and relax. Our rooms were lovely. Each room was spotless and complete with all you could need. Bar Area - A lovely comfortable room, with leather sofas and tables to relax by. Hot drinks as well as alcohol and soft drinks are available. We asked if sandwiches could be purchased and Rachel provided a wide selection to choose from. They were tasty and filling. Restaurant - it was a limited menu that night, but what we chose was excellent. The salted caramel tart with chantilly cream was delicious. We finished the night in the bar enjoying conversation with other residents who were there for the weekend. A comfortable night’s sleep followed, the beds were so comfortable, only issue for us was we were in room 18 and you could hear the door to reception opening long into the night. We were right next to it.
