Tassel Hotel Sanjo Shirakawa

The reception staff and staff service was exceptional. Lovely breakfast offerings. Drinks at happy hour is a lovely touch. Close to all the art galleries/art and craft exhibition and boutique shops, restaurants, Heinan shrine and small handcrafted markets. Location is great- close to train station, quiet spot and away from the hustle and noise of Kyoto central. Loved my stay here.

Such a lovely hotel with the kindest and most thoughtful staff. The hotel is very simple and clean, with the rooms having amazing natural light and comfortable beds. Of course a bit on the small side, but this is Japan. While it is compact there is excellent use of space and light so you feel very comfortable. Free sake and wine in the lobby in the evenings, and the hotel staff kindly will put your bags in your room if you have them delivered from another hotel without even needing to ask. The location has amazing food all around, and it is nice and quiet set on a canal, away from the crazy tourist areas, but still close enough to walk to.

Everything was great for this price point.

Delightful hotel, very quiet and beautiful. Being a small hotel, the hospitality feels personal. All staff are helpful and friendly. Our room was on the 5th floor, overlooking the creek and the shrine gate. It was comfortable and while I initially felt it a little small, found it to have enough space for all our luggage and bits n pieces. The entire hotel is beautifully designed. The lobby/dining area has a peaceful atmosphere and is really enjoyable to rest in. It sits beside a small running creek, visible through the large windows which are decorated with beautiful tassels. In the lobby there are excellent welcome drinks, with an incredible variety of beer, sake, wine, whiskey, and bar snacks - it’s a real treat. Location next to subway is excellent, and also well located for walking to the Path of Philosophy and temples around it. Surrounding area is very cute and low key. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy Kyoto, outside of the main city region but easily accessible by subway or even walking if you like to stroll.

Wardrobe space is a little small, enough space to hang about 4 items. A minor detail, given how wonderful this hotel is.
