When I arrived at the hotel, flustered and exhausted, I tried to get to my room as quickly as possible. The room was advertised as a USD price, and therefore I carried the right amount of cash with me. When I got to reception, I was greeted, and midway through my conversation, the receptionist's friend dropped by, plomped herself on the seat and took over the conversation. When I complained, I was told to "wait 5 minutes", while they laughed at something on her phone, and then she took off. I gave them my booking details, and I was then told that they do not accept USD as payment. I told them that they advertised in USD, and that I had no other currency with me. I was told to find a bank "around the corner", and do an exchange. After walking around in the mid day heat, I found the bank, which was closed. The ATMs did not work, and I was left stranded. A local came to my assistance, and helped me with the exchange, at a fee, of course, and I got to my room. They were busy with renovations in the room beside mine, so hammering and drilling was part of my day, as was the dust that comes with construction. First thing I did was take a shower, but I had no hot water. The heating mechanism did not work, no matter what I did, and I accepted defeat. The bedding was a bit dirty (might be from the dust), and I kept dusting it off. The TV is also set to Thai, and even if you change the subtitles to English, it does not work. I ended up watching TV on my cellphone. There was 2 bottles of drinking water in the room, and I would've appreciated if it had been chilled, with the heat, but it was not. It is extremely close to the border, which is convenient, but the night time traffic really keeps you from having a good night's rest.
