Taj Samudra, Colombo

We went for the breakfast buffet where the food was amazing and the staff, any appreciation would be less. They were all continuously working so hard to make our experience better. Special thanks to Mr Dilhara, dileka, chathura, Idunil and chef Vipin.

Dilhara was extremely amazing a special appreciation for hinge welcomed us with such a warm smile and he was so pro activate to come to us said good morning was taking care of us such a good person i absolutely loved the service given by him amazing he is please give my regards to him amazing he is.

We had a wonderful experience at the “Ports of Call” restaurant during our honeymoon stay at Taj Samudra Colombo. After celebrating our wedding here, it was so special to return and enjoy the warm hospitality once again. A heartfelt thank you to Dias, Dilhara, Athauda, Keshan, and Poorni for making our visit memorable. Each of them was incredibly friendly, attentive, and supportive throughout our dining experience. Their genuine care and excellent service truly made us feel welcomed and valued. The atmosphere was relaxing, the food was delicious, and the overall experience exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend “Ports of Call” to anyone visiting Taj Samudra Colombo, especially for couples celebrating special moments. Thank you again to the amazing team for making our honeymoon even more memorable!

This is our first trip as a family to Sri Lanka and so far we have had a really lovely experience. The Taj Samudra is well located within a stones throw of the beach and not far from sites around town. The staff here are extremely helpful and very obliging. Nothing is too much trouble and you are always met with a smile and a helpful and friendly attitude. We had a lovely dining experience this evening in the main restaurant known as Ports of Call and our server was named Oshan. He was extremely knowledgable, helpful and efficient. Both times we have visited this eatery, the staff have been welcoming and generous with their time and attention to detail. On arrival we needed to fix some clothing that had ripped on our flight, and a lovely lady called Sumudu in house keeping, repaired the clothing without any hesitation or charge. Our room is well kitted out, clean and spacious with nice views and excellent amenities. I’d highly recommend a stay here as all the staff can’t do enough for you. It’s been a lovely first experience of this beautiful country. Highly recommend.

The location

The hotel in general is not maintained to the standard of a 5 star hotel. This includes the rooms and the facilities. We paid for an executive suite which was dilapidated and dirty. When we asked to check out, we were offered an upgrade to a club suite which was in a much better condition. It seems some of the more expensive rooms are in a better condition. Overall, it felt more like a 3/4 star hotel and I would not recommend unless the management invests in improving the condition of the hotel.

1. The Breakfast! There was a recent article about Indian 5 star chefs. They prepare "authentic" Italian, Mexican, Thai, Spanish etc. food in an exceptional way but when it comes to "authentic" Indian food, they fail miserably! Which was very true here. The vadas, dosas, idlis and bondas were just... disappointing. Can you accept bitter tasting carbon residues in vadas in a 5 star hotel? Please think. Also, just have a look at the white bread. Firm to hard. 2. A smaller one, next. Some confusion among the various staff regarding the evening tea. Some gave the name tea ceremony, others, high tea, but none were sure when, and some didn't even know there was one! It would have helped to just keep a small board nearby.

The rooms are little old, breakfast was pathetic. Staff is nice
