This stay was a stark reminder that brand legacy can sometimes outlive actual standards. The property is visibly outdated and in urgent need of renovation. What might once have been charming now feels neglected—worn structures, tired interiors, and a general lack of upkeep that’s difficult to ignore. The most telling miss: a beautifully located sunset deck that shuts at 7 PM—precisely when guests arrive to unwind and enjoy the evening. It’s baffling. You have the setting, the demand, and yet the experience is cut short at the exact moment it should begin. Basic hygiene standards were also not met. We were given linen with a noticeable foul smell—something that had to be replaced. This isn’t a premium hotel expectation; it’s a baseline one. Dining was equally disappointing. Portion sizes are almost comical for the price point—ordering something as simple as a single roti becomes a lesson in how aggressively pricing can be misaligned with value. At breakfast, requesting a fresh orange juice resulted in staff needing to “check if oranges are available.” At a Taj property, during breakfast service, this is not a supply issue—it’s a service failure. The Caravela restaurant sums up the overall experience: dull, dated, and poorly maintained. It feels untouched for years, lacking both atmosphere and basic upkeep. Taken together, this isn’t an isolated bad experience—it’s a systemic erosion of standards. For a brand like Taj, that’s the real disappointment.

Breakfast spread was very good. Pools were good.

Check in staff and room cleanliness. We reserved rooms with twin beds. At check in at 6pm we were told there was no twin beds available due to hotel’s oversight and offered to upgrade us to a cottage with twin rooms BUT we have to pay for the upgrade! Basically we have to pay extra because of the hotel’s mistake. We refused of course. The room we were finally assigned (we had a filthy floor and despite our daily complaints and daily “mopping” by staff, the floor remained filthy till check out!
