Tomonoura Shiomachi Hotel Roya

This was a unique experience, and a wonderful one. The little suite of rooms is dark and elegant, with a panelled sitting room with a tatami floor, and a beautiful spacious bedroom full of character. The private onsen and courtyard are magical - full of birdsong in the morning, and romantic at night. The breakfast was sensational and unexpected - beautifully presented, extensive and delicious. We had a wonderful stay.

Very unique property in a quaint town and a good location. The hotel is spread out over several original houses in an area of the town all a very short walk from the main building and restaurant. The exterior of the residences are conserved, but the interiors are fully renovated to a modern standard and are very beautiful. Staying at this property makes you feel like you are part of the town which is, itself, very quaint. The food is fantastic and I wills highly recommend the had board option. The staff are very friendly and helpful. All around a beautiful and unique property. We will definitely be coming back.

一樓的廁所有異味，住宿期間從未消散，我住的Roya是這種分散式古民居住宿設施的第一處，僅是住宿空間沒有前台，結果至今門口沒有任何公告或指示，對於初次造訪的遊客，根本不知道要去哪裡Check-In。

Die Lage und die Ausstattung des Hotels. Das Appartement war fast neuwertig und es hat nichts gefehlt. Die Aussicht auf den schönen Hafen war im Sonnenuntergang fantastisch. Das Appartement war sehr geräumig für japanische Verhältnisse. Da es in einer kleinen Seitenstraße liegt, war es auch sehr ruhig. Es gab auch eine schönen Balkon mit Liegesitzen. Das Haus war ein altes Holzhaus mit modernem Luxus.

1. The noise. There is no soundproofing whatsoever. You basically hear not only every step the people above you do, but also every word they speak, as if you were in the same room. If you are lucky, they will go to bed early. 2. The place was infested with aggressive mosquitoes (early April). 3. The check-in process is a bit chaotic, the location of the premises and their parking not well indicated. On the booking.com app (IOs version) the app sends you to a completely different hotel. I had reserved a parking spot, and received an answer that I would get detailed instructions shortly before the arrival date - that unfortunately never happened. Only by luck did I find the place as I ran into a staff member who was guiding other guests. 4. There are absolutely no dinner options. Eating at the restaurant of the hotel group (they have different properties) was apparently not possible. So I was handed a map with some pictures, text in Japanese only, with the indication: opening times and hours are uncertain - maybe some are open, "toki doki". Sometimes. So all that was left on a Sunday night was a sandwich from a convenience store. 5. Tomonoura is overrated and underwhelming.

L’espace du logement ,le confort du lit, les vêtements traditionnels qui sont confortables et de qualité le jardin. Un personnel de qualité qui sait accueillir! Un repas équilibré et complet !

Le manque de propreté.. il y avait des toiles d’araignées dans les recoins, de la poussière sur la machine à café. La qualité du bois pour le bain et les sièges sont je pense à traiter voir à changer.

Nice and comfy bed. Very cozy, nice lighting. Renovated historical building with modern utilities, kinda like Nipponia if you’ve ever stayed at one of those.

There are a few different rooms but mine was on the first floor and because it’s traditional house so the sound proofing was terrible. I had trouble sleeping as all I could hear people walking above and sliding wooden doors didn’t help, I could even hear the sound from their conversations. They don’t take dining reservations for 1 person, so no breakfast nor dinner for solo travellers but there’s some food options around the area, Family Mart is also there for the rescue.
