Scandic Rovaniemi City

Would we come back to this hotel? Absolutely. The overall experience was great, and we truly enjoyed our stay. Would we book the Master Suite with the skylight over the bed again? Absolutely not. Unfortunately, the heating element designed to melt snow off the skylight wasn’t working, and the neon lights from neighboring buildings flashed nonstop throughout the night. Between the light and the cold skylight, it made for a very long night. The hotel itself was wonderful — we’d just choose a different room next time.

We decided to booked all of our accommodation with Scandic Hotels for our 2 weeks of adventure across Denmark, Norway and Finland in January 2026, as we have previously stayed with Scandic Hotel Copenhagen and the customer service was exceptional, value for money, perfect location and modern facilities. Unfortunately this was not the case with Scandic Hotel Rovaniemi. Whilst hotel location is very important to us when travelling, if that is all the hotel can offer then it is red flags for us. This was our experience with Scandic Hotel Rovaniemi. Please note that we had multiple conversations with the staff at reception over our stay regarding a number of concerns, and all to no avail. The customer service was horrendous on multiple occasions, we had to ask staff to have our window open as it was locked by the hotel and were limited to 20 minutes. The room was extremely stuffy, and whilst we had sauna facilities in the room if we had used these there would have been no way to cool the room down. It was winter, we basically sweated every night, as there was no airflow. When we informed reception staff, they did not seem overly interested in assisting us other than offering us another sauna room (which we thought why would we change as we already had a sauna room). After asking on 2 consecutive occasions for the window to be unlocked and opened, we were informed that there was a problem with the air-conditioning in that room and it had not been fixed. The next day, while my husband was in the bathroom, and I was in the main bedroom a male in their mid-20’s dressed as a ‘tradie’ opened our door and just looked at me. He went to close the door from the outside, and I asked him if I could help him. He was slow to respond and said ‘is this room available?’, and I responded no we are in this room at the moment. This was concerning, as there was no knock and the person had access to our room. We reported this to the staff at reception, and they were initially dismissive. We raised concern that this person had access to our room, did not knock and we did not know who they were or what they were doing accessing our room. Finally the Assistant Manager tracked down the person of concern and spoke with them. We were informed that the person had come to fix the air-conditioning, however in being told this we still raised concern that they had boxes on a trolley that were not air-conditioning related (we ascertained this based on the box branding). Whilst we are supportive of sustainability and the environment, the lack of hygiene in our bathroom (once discovered) was absolutely disgusting and had obviously not been cleaned for a period of time. Based on the heat levels in the room, and the human faeces on the toilet brush the scientific experiment (or whatever was being done) was not fit for human access. Unfortunately my husband become unwell during our stay in Rovaniemi, and was diagnosed with a viral gastroenteritis. At this stage, the reception staff were happy to extend our accommodation for another night at the going rate. However were not assistive in contacting our next Scandic Hotel (pre-booked and paid) to inform them we would not arrive on that day. We were stuck in a situation where we had to stay as my husband could not travel. When I asked the Assistant Manager for assistance contacting our next accommodation (another Scandic Hotel) all they kept saying was that hotel is in another country. I was quite stressed with the fact my husband was ill and thought someone may have had some level of humanity to assist. No unfortunately not the case. Thankfully we left the next afternoon on a flight. We are unable to rank 0/5, and based on lack of customer service, extremely high prices for low quality and dirty rooms, and an old weathered hotel we would NOT RECOMMEND Scandic Hotel Rovaniemi for any travellers, and would never stay there again. Beware!!

Sehr gutes Hotel mitten in der Innenstadt. Bushaltestelle zum Santa Clause Village (15 Min) und zum Flughafen (25 Min), der alle paar Min fährt, direkt gegenüber. Supermarkt der fast 24 Std auf hat sowie Birger King und sämtliche andere Restaurants auch. Weiterhin ist die Hauptstraße in der Innenstadt voll mit Touranbietern. Man muss also nicht alles im Vorfeld buchen, sondern kann da einfach hingehen und vor Ort buchen Lage also 10/10. Schöne, aber kleine Sauna, Frauen und Männer getrennt, Öffnungszeiten allerdings nur von 17.30h bis 21.30h. Das verstehe ich nicht ganz und ist unglücklich, hab sie dennoch an 2 von 4 Abenden kurz genutzt. Frühstück war gut bis sehr gut, aber nicht überragend. War im Prinzip alles da, aber teilweise merkte man, dass das eine oder andere von gestern war. Aber das ist Klagen auf hohem Niveau Gepäckraum und Gym auch vorhanden. Zimmer wurden super schön warm, das war mir bei -26 Grad draußen besonders wichtig. Insgesamt bin ich sehr zufrieden und würde wieder kommen.

Das einzige was mich wirklich gestört hat ist, dass man die Fenster gar nicht öffnen konnte. Man muss die Heizung ja anlassen und demnach ist es nachts warm, man kann aber nicht mal eben lüften. Weiterhin erwarte ich von einem 4 Sterne Hotel etwas mehr Sauberkeit. Die Handtücher wurden zwar gewechselt und der Müll geleert, aber sonst wurde 5 Tage nichts gemacht.

Visited on several vacations in Rovaniemi, always a good experience, central location next to the mall. The staff is always helpful, I thought to give a special shout out to the team after we have found that we have really enjoyed the room with our view, but had checked out to go temporarily to another location (for aurora seeing), to find out that the staff passed the note to get us the same room when we checked back in based on a brief mention. Great breakfast in the morning with a variety of local specialties.

La ubicación es excelente. Díad antes de llegar pedi estar en la misma habitación ya que ingresaba una noche antes del tour reservado, pero no me ayudaron (mala predisposición o falta de buena atención al cliente). En la ducha el agua sale por abajo de la puerta y moja el baño. La cama cómoda y la habitación espaciosa.

Check is is 4 PM. We arrived at 2 PM. That was fine but the reciopist said we could check in as room was ready if we paid another 20 euro. After paying nearly 1000 euro for 3 nights i thought this was very very greedy
