"Fulll of Surprises"

4.0

This is an older property. That is not necessarily bad but it looks a little worn. There is some renovation going on so they may be trying ti improve that. We were surprised to find no air conditioning in the room. The temperatures were 100 degrees with high humidity in July when we were there. Water pressure was very low. It was difficult to take a shower. The beds were lumpy. The view out the window from our room was just woods and not particularly attractive. Not the mountain vista you see in the advertisements. Altogether a surprising visit and not int a good way. I could have stayed at a Motel 6 at half the price and had a better stay.

"Beautiful and Comfortable- But Be Prepared "

6.0

We’ve stayed here twice before. Very nice lodge and areas. The restaurant was one of our main reasons for going (lodge is a little out of the way), but it was a “problem with the kitchen.” There are very limited options for food. Take your own just in case!

"Needs help "

4.0

The first surprise was no air conditioning. At this price i never thought about the rooms not having air on a 100 degrees summer day. The next was the water pressure. The shower barely sprayed water. The rooms were out of date. And the view, advertised a view from the balcony. It was fallen trees, weeds, and brush. Frankly we could have had a better stay at a Motel 6 at half the cost. Did I mention there was construction going on next to us. Not the stay we envisioned.

First, I really enjoyed spending time at the park and having time to participate in day and night activities. I was aware that there was no air conditioning. Thankfully, I took a battery-operated fan for this trip. There was no ceiling fan. Also, the power was out for some of our stay, the Wi-Fi was out most of the time. On my last day, I found out there had been a problem with the power for two weeks. This was not communicated me. I regularly camp, so fortunately, I had stuff in my trunk like lights, cook system, solar batteries, and etc to make my family comfortable.

"Cozy Stay with Furry Best Friend in the Heart of Shenandoah Nat'l Park"

8.0

I love staying at Big Meadows Lodge when I go to Shenandoah National Park. It is so great to stay inside the park and be able to go on the Appalachian Trail from your doorstep, or get an early start to see the sunrise from Skyline Drive. I especially love that there are dog-friendly rooms/cabins and that your furry best friend can dine with you on the deck of the Spotswood Dining Room (weather permitting). One does have to remember that this is an older property, so the rooms are pretty spartan. It is a few steps above camping, in that you have a real bed, a bathroom with shower and they do have HVAC. You are paying a bit of a premium to get to stay in the park. There is a small gift shop, a coffee shop in the lodge and a taproom downstairs in the lodge too. The lodge is a cozy place to hang out and enjoy the view from a rocking chair or play a game or do a jigsaw puzzle with your family if you like. It is a tradition for me to go here every 4th of July with my dog to escape city fireworks-you can't shoot off fireworks in national parks! I would also like to commend the staff-everyone I encounter there is always friendly and helpful. I always hate to leave after a couple days.

"Wonderful stay"

10.0

The lodge is set in the woods, with many areas to sit outside and enjoy the surroundings. We stayed in a building a short walking distance from the main lodge. The lodge and buildings are rustic, which adds to the charm. The room was clean, with ample space inside. A Keurig coffee maker and refrigerator were included in the room. Both the taproom and the dining room were good, with a few choices of food and drinks at a usual price point. They also have a Starbucks in the common area. We would happily stay again if in the area.

We liked that it was in the National Park. Staff was amazing and really accommodating. We arrived during a power outage and they were still completely friendly, helpful and professional.
