Americas Best Value Inn San Clemente Beach

Husband and wife owned Americans Best Value Inn. Location is near Whale Watching events. Owner, Mr. V. initially denied us reserved rooms when he couldn't find us on his computer. The following days were nice accommodations.

Parking is tight and maybe hard to get. We had two rooms, but one room did not have towels. Second evening's stay at America's Best Value aka Travel Lodge in San Clemente was good.

WiFi didn’t work the whole time I was there. The hotel main desk phone wasn’t in service for the two days before I arrived to try to address an issue and no one responded to an email I sent, and my key never worked to my room despite swapping it out two additional times. I was frustrated, but the owners were kind.

This was booked on Thursday, April 3 and when I went to check in, I was never told until I was ready to walk out the door that the electricity was going to be off from 9 PM until 6 AM. However they had received a notification from the electric company four weeks prior. I requested a refund. I was refused by the clerk at the hotel. I also contacted Hotels.com and gave them this information they offered to relocate me at literally 10 o'clock at night, which was ridiculous and yet I asked for a partial or even a full refund, but never received a single communication back from Hotels.com. I will be reporting the American best hotel for Endangerment based on the fact that this hotel was without electricity from 9 PM until 6 AM. I was on the third floor. I had no way to know where the access point was to get down the stairs because not the only did the phones not work. There was no lights. There was no elevators or anything of that nature. The windows did not open so should a fire of broken out. I would've been trapped on the third floor. This definitely is the worst hotel to stay at, and I feel that not only them, but Hotels.com should be held accountable since it was reported to both of them.

Relax

Not maintained well. Very confused check in. Key didn’t work and had to get another room. Front desk called me at night, waking me up, just to ask me my name. Room next to busy road with lots of noise. Would only stay here again if everything else sold out.

No breakfast offered. Parking is limited and very tight, but some is also on the street outside the building. The room is very spacious.

The motel is old and could use some renovation. The mattress on the bed was pretty soft and worn out.

Location was great. The room was very spacious, great location, super clean, friendly staff

The property is centrally located, so it is easy to get around.

The staff. My mistake was I booked a single queen bed room. I needed 2 queen beds. I checked on Booking.com and saw the hotel still had rooms. I contacted the man at the front desk and told him of my mistake. He gave me another room, but charged me more for it than the internet price. I protested the price difference and he said that was the best he could do. I’ve walked into hotels before and they always will match or beat the internet price. I will never stay there again and 2 of my children live there, so I’ll go back to the place I’ve stayed at before. One other thing. Who ever painted the room got paint all over the towel racks, the counter top and other surfaces in the room. It looks very sloppy. Like I said. I come down 3 to 4 times a year to see my family and Americans best value inn will not see me as a customer again.
