Eifel Hotel Schneider am Maar

Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Some staff spoke English with was great as my German is terrible. Very clean and food was very good.

We had a nice view of the lake! The breakfast was quite nice! I liked that there was a variety of options, including bread, eggs, salami, croissants, waffles, musli, yoghurt and others.

I was a bit disappointed that the spa zone was not working. I would have loved to use the spa zone of the hotel. I was not informed in advance that the spa would not be open, so I was a bit surprised on the spot.

It was really nice The only thing was that there was a help in the restaurant who seemed very tired, which we understood because it was really hot and it seemed she had been on her feet for a long time. We felt like a burden for just ordering and being there. We refrained from ordering because she was so unkind. Once we had addressed this, she changed her attitude, fortunately. Other than that, go and visit this place! A hidden gem!

The room was large and beautifully decorated. The hotel is nicely decorated. Toys are provided.

The people from the room next door were smoking on our terrace (not a closed terrace). In the information folder in the room, you will not find the necessary information, e.g. about the WiFi, place and time of breakfast, ...

Generally speaking the hotel is very nice! Staff are nice and helpful. Restaurant and breakfast are really good. The room I had was well equipped and nice. The location next to the Maar is wonderful. The wellness part, well mostly the Finnish sauna and relaxing room, are quite nice. I had a wonderful stay.

I'd love to give the hotel a 10 as there is a LOT of good there, but I had to stick with an 8 as there is room for improvement. In decreasing order of importance: - The bedroom doesn't have a usable cooling/ventilation option: I'd prefer to be able to open windows, but due to the location next to the Maar (crater lake) there's plenty of mosquitoes in June, and there are no insect screens, so opening them other than in broad daylight is "at your own risk". As a result it got stuffy at night despite quite cool night temperatures (well below 20C) for the time of year - and still got harrassed by 2 mosquitoes who managed to get in. An airco (less preferred!) would be an alternative, but it's not there yet: again, natural ventilation is better, and insect screens would do the job. - The bed is quite hard: a more forgiving mattress would help a lot. - The Finnish sauna is very nice but the wellness rooms badly miss a hot tub. There is plenty of space for it! - I know that this disease has infected all of Germany by now, but please please install a real espresso machine in the restaurant instead of the automated machines that simply produce mediocre espresso and cappuccino at best. As said, this is sadly prevailing all over Germany now, except in real Italian restaurants. - No curtains in the room, and the shades that are there instead need repairs or replacement.
