Super 8 by Wyndham Port Elgin

Spent 2 nights here. When we arrived, the pool was closed because the hot tub was out for maintenance. The next day the pool was open but fairly cold and the hot tub was still out for maintenance. This was disappointing as we wanted to relax in the pool and hottub when we arrived after a long drive. As for the room, it was a standard room, however it had quite the bad smell to it. The smell did not go away. We couldn't decide what the smell was...maybe musty wet dog type of smell. Wish we said something. This really was the only really negative thing. The positive is that the breakfast was great and we slept good and the best was the heated bathroom floor...that was awesome. Never have we experienced a heated bathroom floor. We will be back to Port Elgin again, but not sure we would take the chance of staying at this hotel again, simply because of that bad smell in the room. Wonder if all the rooms are like that. We had room 144.

The gentlemen on reception went above and beyond after we arrived,in the dark, on bicycles after riding all day in torrential rain. Thank you to that young man!!

I'm over 60 years old and I have stayed at many hotel in my life. This Super8 would be in my top 10. When I checked in Gary (manager I think) was there to greet me and was nice enough to let me go to the room a few hours early. I had breakfast every morning their(I was there for 3 nights) and it was ok. I was expecting a gourmet breakfast, with coffee, juice and some eggs n sausage my belly was full. I would highly recommend anyone to go to this very clean and great amenities motel.

Nothing really

There is nothing good about this hotel except the location.

Where do I begin? We used to stay at this hotel when our boys were younger for fun family getaways and for Pumpkin Fest. Well, the property has changed hands. We travel a fair bit and stay in a lot of hotels and consider ourselves pretty laid back and no frill. We booked this dive through a third party. My biggest mistake was not checking the reviews. Getting into our room, we noticed it to be musty and dirty right off the bat. No big deal, we're just there for the night. Opened the curtains, and the outside pool was green and littered with garbage everywhere. What the deal breaker was, though, my super unobservant husband went to use the washroom, and there were feces all over the toilet. And not just in it. Someone went to town with their poop. When any person renting a hotel room for $300 plus a night is a straight-up deal breaker... BECAUSE THE ROOM WAS NEVER CLEANED. We had been in the room for 5 minutes and decided to go to the front desk to switch rooms. My second biggest mistake. The second room (minus the toilet bowl suprise!) was equally filthy, tub was dirty, carpet not walkable with bare feet, black hand prints everywhere... we decided we'd rather sleep in our car at this point. We called booking.com to cancel. The agent was helpful but we had a feeling the hotel would give us a hard time. We were correct! Went back to the front desk and explained we were canceling due to it being unhygienic. That was the polite way of putting it. The receptionist said she would CANCEL THE ROOM and was put off, but apologized. We got her card and left. That's just the beginning of this scam property. Again. Read the reviews. They charged my cc the full amount plus the $100 deposit. Back and forth dealing with booking.com and my cc the charges disappeared, but I still had an intuition. Sure enough the charge appears back on my statement. This is after I tried calling and emailed the property several times. Crickets.
