Comfy beds, breakfast was lovely in great location

There was no robes in the room for the kids to go to the pool, we tried using the room phone and guessed numbers for reception as there was no information in the room to contact them. We ended up using our mobiles and had to ring a third time to get through to reception as first two times the hung up. Kids only allowed to play in the pool until 5:30pm so they only really got 45minutes. I asked the girl who asked us to come out of the pool what time can the children use it in the morning as they were so disappointed and she stated 7:30am. Following morning kids were up from the crack of dawn, went to breakfast early enough and made out way down to the pool for 8:50am to be told that children aren’t allowed in until 9:30am. I stated that the girl told us 7:30am the day before and she said no it’s 9:30am. Yes she was polite but my kids cried for a full 40 minutes because they were told something different the day before. I just can’t understand how children can only have approximately an hour in the pool in the mornings before check out time. We have stayed previously at the Slieve Donard before and absolutely loved it which is why we made a return. Last time we stayed which was only a year ago, we didn’t have any issue with pool times which is why the children and ourselves wanted to return. But for the price we paid, it doesn’t anyway justify for the experience. Not worth the money and sadly we won’t be back.

As a first night away with my new partner I thought I would book something special, so booked a suite at the Slieve Donard at £600 + for the night, expensive yes but from its reputation I thought it would be excellent To sat we were disappointed was an understatement - at first impression the room is impressive but in reality all you are paying for is a massive bed and a view. The room had no complementaries, no snacks, no mini bar, no bath oils or foams. There is a loose tile just outside the shower that you can stub your toe on and is so sharp it would cut your feet if I hadn't noticed it. We ordered breakfast to the room which was lukewarm on cold plates, didn't have the items we ordered and had items we hadn't ordered, there were no teaspoons, sugars, no salt and pepper. The room was also situated right above the entrance lobby and was incredibly noisy until after 1am as there was a function on. On checking out, the staff at reception didn't ask how our stay was - expensive and disappointing - would not recommend.

The bed is very comfortable. The view is nice. That's about it.

Atmosphere

Lovely overnight stay all staff were very friendly especially Natalie in reservations and Emier in the bar who gave exceptional service. Meal in JJ Farells wasl beautifully presented and breakfast had loads of choice. Really enjoyed our relaxing break
