I’m writing to express our deep disappointment with a recent stay at the Spartanburg Marriott. As a loyal Platinum member, we had much higher expectations, especially during what turned out to be an extremely difficult time for our family. To begin with, my husband mistakenly provided an expired credit card for our prepaid reservation. Instead of contacting us to update the payment method, which would have been a reasonable courtesy, particularly for a Platinum member, the front desk canceled our reservation. We were then told to rebook at a new rate and assured the original prepaid rate would be honored. Unfortunately, this promise was not fulfilled, resulting in an additional cost of approximately $600. During our stay, we experienced several disruptions and inconveniences. One early morning around 5 AM, the fire alarm went off 11 times, forcing all guests to evacuate. The alarm went off again the following afternoon. Additionally, the elevators were not working one day, requiring us to walk down six flights of stairs. Communication from the hotel was also lacking. We never received a welcome email, nor were we informed that the M club would be closed over the weekend. Furthermore, none of the on-site dining options – – the restaurant, Starbucks, or the bar – – were open in the afternoon, leaving us with no convenient options after returning from long and emotionally draining days. To add to the disappointment, the pool was closed,. It does not open until Memorial Day. That said, we did want to recognize a few individuals who made a positive impact. Some front desk staff were incredibly kind (giving us a room upgrade for being Platinum and recognizing our situation), helpful, and understanding during what was a stressful time for us. In particular, Tea, an employee at the bar, went above and beyond to care for our family. Her compassion and service stood out during a time of personal loss, as our sister passed away during this trip. While we appreciate the hospitality shown by a few staff members, the overall experience was far below what we expect from a Marriott property – – especially as a Platinum member. We hope you will take this feedback seriously and consider measures to prevent other guests from facing similar issues in the future.

Very clean and staff very nice and professional.

I have been a Marriott awards member for 20 years now and I have NEVER encountered such a RUDE, mean employee as Courtney at the front desk! I am appalled that they would have such a person working for Mariott. I booked the room with points for my son to stay. I put his name on the reservation as I had in the past. Never an issue. She said she didnt see his name and he called me and I talked to her and identified myself. She said she still would not let him check in. I understand that there may or could be a mix up sometimes, but she was extremely, beyond RUDE, and did not even want to try and help figure it out like a decent person. It was offensive! She accused us both as trying to scam and identify fraud! She was viscous and mean. Did not even treat us as humans. She is a terrible human being and should not be working with the public.

Great pool, staff is very nice, and the rooms are clean.

I enjoyed my stay

Very nice hotel, and stay. Easy parking and big outdoor pool is very nice. Located downtown and close to many places to eat, shop, and experience Spartanburg!

I didn’t like that the mattress was sinking in and very uncomfortable. I did not sleep properly at all.
