Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was clean and facilities good.

The Air conditioning wasn’t working and hasn’t been since May. Temperatures were in the high twenties and the fan provided did not cool the room enough to sleep comfortably.

The location.

First and foremost, I hate giving bad reviews but my wife and I have been travelling since April 5 and during that time we have stayed in many hotels. By far, The Holiday Inn Express Portsmouth would have to be the worst we have stayed in. My wife and I stayed in Portsmouth in July 2025 during a very hot summer in a hotel with no air conditioning. Because we knew we would be arriving during a another summer, we specifically booked the Holiday Inn late last year as they advertise that they have air-conditioning. On the 10 December 2025, I received a message from the hotel manager that they are having maintenance issues with their air conditioning. I assumed that by the time that we would be staying on 21 June 2026, this would be resolved. Low and behold, on the 19 June 2026, I was informed that air conditioning was not available. I had a non-refundable booking so we had no option to continue with our booking.......and what a hot box it was. On Booking.com, which we booked through, they are still promoting that they have air conditioning. The hotel even informed me today that it has been out of service for 18 months.

Room was comfortable & clean. Although on small side. Price I thought on high side especially as breakfast not included. Appreciated offer of free icecreams & canned water, plus use of a fan, as air conditioning broken.

The bed, Larger bed would be nice.
