Kauhale Makai - Maui Condo & Home

We've stayed elsewhere in Maui and had a great experience. Arrived here about 9 pm and it took us a while to figure out how to even get into the complex since all the front doors were locked. At least it was convenient using the pre-arranged keycode lock to access our unit once we found our way in. Opening the door, we found a very dated, grimy place. We're not neat freaks, but we just didn't feel like touching anything. At least no bedbugs and the mattress wasn't too bad, but we slept with the lights on the first night. In the morning, we re-washed the greasy-feel kitchen and any dishes/pots/cutlery we'd use, covered the furniture with sheets before sitting on anything, and went out to buy an extra pair of "indoor" flipflops since we literally had black feet from walking on the floors/carpeting. We kept our clothes in our suitcases the entire time - closet space was minimal and (ironically) mostly assigned to storing the vacuum and mops. Little vanity space in the bathroom, tub/toilet area was tight and unappealing. We didn't realize there wasn't maid service, but they provided oodles of sheets (some mis-matched) and hard/dingy bath towels. Only 2 beach towels and 1 kitchen towel, 1 roll of paper towels, and 2 rolls of toilet paper for a 10+ night booking. Seems this is a hit or miss property - some owners have updated their units and other renters reported liking the place. Others expressed the same concerns as us. Too inconsistent for us to risk rebooking.

Even though all the pictures in Expedia showed a lovely view, if the room doesn't say ocean view, it doesn't have one. Our view was of the back of a tree and the parking lot. No privacy as half the complex had to walk by our window to get from the parking lot. That and the place smelled musty and bad. The furniture was not clean either, we kept a sheet over the couch.

We got great service. We can't find the rice cooker. Then we called the office in the morning. We got a brand new rice cooker delivered in the afternoon. One night after 6pm the smoke detector was beeping every 10 minutes. We are so worried, because the office close and hurrican was coming. We called the emergent number, soon someone came to take care of it. We lived in room 512, which has very nice view from the master bedroom and living room. The condon located in front of a beach which is very quiet. Location is very good. It is closed to attraction, supermarket , shopping center, airport.

Was good, exelent location and sauna, nice view and closed to the beach.

No. 525 could use some TLC. Bare utensils in kitchen. Better furnishingsneeded. Saw nearby units that were much better furnished and more " homey". Condos in good location and close to all needs. Would not rent 525 again, but rent those we saw. Would hope some ondos were closer to ocean view.

Our stay was really nice.The patio and bedroom was overlooking the beach and it was a fantastic view. Just walk down few feet, and you are at the beach. Had a great experience.

Great value. Clean and neat. 30 year old complex but well maintained and worth the price for those on a budget. We paid a little over a 100$ a day for 11 days. We met many couples that spent four to five hundred a night, so for what they paid for their exclusive hotel is what I paid for my entire trip. My family did a lot, we went on a lot of tours and expeditions. We ate well, we took full advantage of the kitchenette but we also dined out. This a great location, centrally located and I had to give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. Don't get me wrong its not five star living , but I would certainly stay here again vs. spending five thousand dollars at a resort.

Location, Location for a family on the go, its not to far and not to close. For those times of rest the beach is right there, but not so close that you are a nervous wreck watching your kids. Very clean. Fully stocked kitchen for cooking. The only thing that threw us off was the TP supply. Other than that it was perfect!

Nice place, well stocked kitchen, nice pool and close to beach and kihei amenities. Room needed some minor maintenance though (noisy toilet, screen door).

The condo we stayed it belonged to a couple who was renting it using a management company. The apartment was very clean and has a lot of facilities and supplies. It was spacious, in a quiet area of town and not close to any noisy entertainment venues. Just steps from a beach and with a gorgeous view of both the ocean, on one side, and the Haleakala volcano, on the other side. Gorgeous sunsets right from the balcony. Security was provided at night for the entire complex, access to the pool hours were strictly but gently enforced every day. Barbecues were available outside the building for anybody to use. We had a very pleasant experience, will definitely go back and strongly recommend it to other people.
