Lovely afternoon tea. Excellent spa.

Construction next door on a building, so no view from our room. Luckily, no noise.

Wonderful atmosphere. The staff made us feel at home. The check in and out was pleasant. The room was nice. Malik was very charming and provided much assistance. The Dogon restaurant was very special and had a wonderful vibe.

Great stay! Excellent hotel and staff. Great location. Beautiful and clean rooms. Pool and room service were awesome. Highly recommend.

This is not a luxury hotel. This is a 3.5 - 4 star hotel that is advertised as luxury. The location is excellent and the restaurant Dogon delicious. The spa services are great however, the spa facilities are very underwhelming and I would only recommend using the facilities for approximately 30 - 45 minutes prior to your service. Of note, there are no communal spaces and all spaces are separated by gender. Ultimately, you are being sold a luxury experience, paying for luxury experience, and this is more similar to a DoubleTree Hotel.

Given the esteemed reputation of the prior Mandarin Oriental property but under the Salamander umbrella, I had high expectations, which were largely fulfilled. The rooms were immaculately clean, spacious, and remarkably quiet. The check-in process was seamless, and when my room was not yet prepared, complimentary drink vouchers were provided for my use during the waiting period. The staff exhibited exceptional friendliness throughout my stay. Dogon is a must to experience. As a popular restaurant, it attracts a significant clientele. Notably, Chef Kwame was present in-house that evening, actively preparing dishes. The dining experience was exceptional, and the food was of exceptional quality.

What was supposed to be a much needed girls weekend/2026 goal planning at the @salamanderhoteldc , turned into a solo staycation because life be lifing. • Thankfully, through @americanexpressplatinum , I was able to check in early, received a free room upgrade 🙌🏾 and a number of other perks. After getting settled and readjusting my expectations for the weekend, I walked around the interior of the property as it was too cold to bother walking outstide. Made a reservation for dinner before heading to my room for a nap. • A glass of bubbles is always a smart idea and I made sure to have a glass with each meal 😉 • Dinner at @dogondc Saturday night was really what I was looking forward to as I would be able to try more of the non vegan items! I’m so thankful that @nofaithwithoutworks was available as I’m convinced that we picked the best items on the menu! • Highly recommend this hotel. While it wasn’t the weekend I planned, I’m thankful for the pivot, a couple @renttherunway dresses that kept me feeling cute and sheets/bed that swaddled me to sleep 😏

Haven't been back to this property since it was the Mandarin Oriental. Had some issues with check in but was resolved. Good job with the renovations especially the rooms and pool area. Lounge and housekeeping staff was on point. Would stay again.

So my family and I booked this hotel through Amex Platinum, which gave us a $100 credit on incidentals (valet parking = $86.50!!!) and also $100 credit for breakfast (the only option is buffet; $30 something for adults; $22 for kids). It also gave us an extra night as we booked for 3 or more nights. So that was appealing. The room was clean when we got there thankfully. The next day we were around the room until 2pm, and then put the service light on and when we returned to the room later that evening, the room was not cleaned. Also, if you have the opportunity to speak to someone before you book, request an odd numbered room, as it faces the harbor. The even number rooms overlook train tracks that has amtrak and industrial trains that pass by at all hours of the day/night. During my stay, 2 of the 4 elevators were out of service, which routinely caused us to have to wait for a second or third elevator to come to our floor to take us down to the lobby. We tried taking the stairs one day but the staircase we took ended in an emergency exit. We resorted to taking the elevator up to make sure we got on one. Not very convenient. I will say also say that the hotel (much like many hotels these days) felt understaffed; the wait at the front desk was typically 10-20 minutes, which was not convenient when my key card became de-activated (which happened three times in three days...). As for the location, it is by the Spy Museum and a Starbucks, but absolutely nothing else. This was convenient for us as we were visiting friends in Alexandria, but if you are hoping to walk to restaurants or the monuments, bring your walking shoes or get ready to Uber. The buffet was plentiful and the gym was solid, so that's a plus.

My family stayed at the Salamander to visit city sights after Christmas. The hotel is ideally situated near multiple landmarks within a short walk, or $10 Uber ride, and there were multiple dining options on site or nearby. The room was clean and upscale. Unfortunately, we were located in a room adjacent to a building under construction across the street. It also seemed that half the elevators were inoperable during our stay so we had to spend extra time waiting in the lobby to go up or down.
