"Avoid this resort ...."

2.0

Let me start by saying that i do not like giving bad reviews but this one warrants it, I am at a loss as to what to say about this resort, first impressions are quite impressive, decor and furnishings in the lobby, That's where it ended. The room that was given us was old, dated and falling apart. The patio door handle fell off within the first minute of being there and stayed outside on the small table on the balcony. One King size bed for the two of us, and to be honest the concrete would have been softer but here we were for 10 days. The resort is huge and with 5 other Bahia Principe's surrounding it , it is big enough to warrant golf carts (or busses ) to ferry people around the resort from the lobby to the rooms lobby to pool, rooms to the beach. The Golf cart drivers will not stop if you are between (bus stops) Finding a smile on 80% of the staff was hard to find, they all looked very unhappy and not enjoying their job at all. Most of the staff were not very attentive to the guests needs . There were a few extremely nice staff . Our Air Transat rep was very dismissive , I went to speak to him 2 times and was told to wait until he had set up his table even after he had set it all up he really didnt listen to my question. gave an off the cuff remark. Food was good. We did not use any of the Al a carte restaurants as the buffet food was good. I would definitely not recommend this resort to anyone, too large, staff were not caring, Vey crowded everywhere. Cuba could teach these staff a thing or two about customer service.

"AWFUL ROOM AND SERVICE."

2.0

Writing this review while sitting in the main lobby waiting for the manager for over 1 hour now. So far, my husband and I spent 3 nights here; 2 of those nights were in a room with cold water and infested with bugs. We told the concierge about the problem on Day 2 of our stay and was informed they will “fumigate” the room and that we didn’t need to leave the room or pack our stuff away. The following day, we woke up with bugs crawling all over the dressers, night stand, our luggages, clothes, bags, backpack etc. Called concierge again and asked for a supervisor or manager, was told they will try and call us back. We did not get a call back and therefore went to the front desk to express our problems and insisted for a new room. The staff was unapologetic and states they “usually don’t offer a new room for this” and would “typically have maintenance fix the issue”. The staff then stated that after we returned from our excursion, to come back to the front desk so that we can get a new room. Later that evening, we were given a room change and was told to pack all of our belongings and that the bell boy will assist us to the new room. I questioned him, “How can I pack all my stuff when there’s bugs all over it?”. We had to insist for laundry service to which I had to sign a waiver that I will not file legal claims against them as I am being compensated for my inconvenience. I looked at the staff and said, “This is it? This is my compensation for all of our issues? It’s not even fixed”. The staff states he was trying to fix the problem as soon as possible and that he will talk to the manager in the morning about complimentary upgrades or services for all of our issues. Its now the next day, our laundry is not done still (despite being told it will be prioritized and be done by 1pm). We’re still waiting to hear from a supervisor or manager. We’ve wasted so much time trying to get someone to rectify this issue when we should be enjoying our vacation.

"Would not recommend"

They were shortstaffed food. Could’ve been much warmer cockroaches, running in the lobby rats by the dumpsters outside our room, if you ask them to make you a drink and you tell him stop with the amount of liquor they put in it they laugh and they just keep pouring and pouring, which I don’t find funny. If you needed a beach towel we had to wait till late afternoon when clean ones came in not enough lawn chairs around the pool. If you got up to go eat lunch real quick somebody would steal your lawn chair, even if you had something on it and the top it off got a bacterial infection from either their food or water from their ice cubes not a way to spend a vacation.

"For the most part, an Enjoyable stay"

8.0

This is a huge resort complex with 5 or 6 different Bahia properties. The property is so large that you need to take large trains of golf carts to move you around. Once you figure out the transportation system, it is rather efficient. Your room location is key. We stayed in suite 20204 so we could walk to the beach in less than a minute but if you were staying at one of the further out hotels then it could take 15-20 minutes for a golf cart to get you to the beach. I thought the food in the specialty restaurants were very good. We ate NOMAD Mongolian grill where you pick your protein, vegetable and sauce and they stir fry it for you. We also ate at Hindu Indian and Mexican. No complaints with the specialty restaurants. We normally had dinner at the Bahia lobby 1 (not Bahia lobby 2 which is older and less selection). The resort was very crowded and sometimes there was a 10-15 wait for a table at the buffet. The food at the buffet was good, especially the salad selections that changed daily. Breakfast and lunch we ate at Las Olas beach house by the beach. As I mentioned it was very crowded and sometimes you needed to hunt down forks/knives and had to wait for clean plates to come out. Getting served a drink at the buffet was hit or miss especially at breakfast and lunch. The staff did their best but clearly they were overwhelmed. They need more self service options like they had in La Isla snack bar where they had self service beer, wine and soft drinks. The grounds are very well maintained and very clean as is the beach and pools. Our suite (Room 20204) was large and comfortable with 2 full bathrooms and two separate sleeping area each with a private balcony. The room was perfectly cleaned each day by Rosa who did an outstanding job!! It would have been nice if more water and beer were left in the room each day. It sometimes took several calls for refills. My largest complaint was the beach and pool lounge chair situation. The other reviews mentioned needing to get up to claim a chair at 5 or 6 am are NOT exagerrating. The hotel does not enforce this and it is very frustrating to see claimed chairs sitting empty for most of the day. A minor inconvenience was that there is a two hour window where you cannot get a drink in the beach area. La Isla, the bar in Las Olas and the beach bars closed at 6 leaving the only option to go into the buffet and order one. There were long lines at the bars especially by the beach. Overall we made it work and had a great week
