Jewel Lake Bed and Breakfast

This was not a bed and breakfast. Food was available for self-service breakfast. Room was okay. Common area was pretty nice. This is a reasonable budget option.

Awesome place! Very happy with the property. We really liked the free on site parking and it was very quiet inside. Very short drive to downtown.

Clean and cozy, check in was easy and communication with the host was great. Good breakfast selection. They even stored my luggage in a safe spot for a few hours in between check out and picking up my rental vehicle. 10/10 would stay again.

I like the ability to talk to other travelers in the common areas. The breakfast options stocked are very good—eggs, yogurt, cereal, fruit. There are stairs to reach the front door and more stairs for some of the rooms.

I have stayed at Jewel Lake a couple of times over the years when I can find availability. The communication is excellent and the lodging is very welcoming, comfortable, quiet and safe.

My wife and I recently stayed in the Nautical room (which is one of three rooms downstairs). The pictures of a nice clean room that are connected to the room listing have to be very old. The carpet is worn and stained, and some furnishings are no longer the same as pictured. The mattress is old and soft and the metal bed frame squeaks whenever you move. The folding bag stand fell apart as the pivot bolts no longer have nuts on them - I put it back together. There is mold in the corner of the tiny shower stall and the ventilation fan does not work. Those with mobility issues be aware - besides the stairs to access the basement the toilet and the shower are on an elevated 1-foot-high step-up platform. There were 4 box fans available standing in the lower hall of which we used one to ventilate and cool our room by placing it in the window for a while. We removed it before going to bed as you couldn't leave the window open for security reasons as it was at ground level. The window lock is broken so a stop stick is in use. There is not an emergency / fire evacuation plan posted. The ceiling is a hanging drop ceiling and the room door is a common light weight residential door - not very fire safe. The Kitchen and breakfast items: The kitchen was reasonably clean but the food items that were mentioned as being provided were questionable or nonexistent. There were excessive items in the fridge not mentioned as being provided and many appeared to be guest leftovers consequently it was not clear what was safe to eat. Hardly anything inside was in individually sealed portions like many other self-serve B & B's that we have stayed at. We elected to only make coffee (which was the sole bright spot as it was a Keurig). Spend a few more dollars and stay at a nice hotel rather than here.

I tried to get a refund for a disgusting place. We felt unsafe. The carpet had stains, the room stank and it had a weird platform toilet. The refrigerator was full of rotten things and there was no yogurt or other things as promised. The bed was soft and noisy. There is no fire safety plan and the owner is rude.

Filthy and no breakfast as promised. Our room was in the basement.The carpet had stains and the refrigerator was disgusting. The place stank. The toilet was on a platform above the bathroom vanity. It wasn’t a safe or clean environment.

Jewel Lake is our home away from home when in Alaska. Cook yourself breakfast is good. Nice laundry facilities. This is convenient to airport. Bus stops across the street. Lyft and Uber are available.
