Berkeley Inn

We had reserved two rooms but when we checked in they said we only had one room. After 10-15 minutes that was worked out. Check in was after 3PM and by now it was almost 5PM but the room had not been cleaned. We had to wait with our friend in the second room for about 30 minutes for our room to be ready. When we went in the room we found it to be clean and had recently been remodeled. The bath room was probably the smallest I have ever seen in a hotel or motel. The room was very noisy from street traffic and around 11PM the people in the next room arrived and sounded like a drunken party. I went out in the morning to find a place for breakfast and was approached by a homeless person begging. I would have been afraid to go out after dark. Overall I would say the hotel would be something I would have expected in a third world country and would not recommend it. For what we received the room was overpriced. On a previous stay in Berkeley a few days earlier we stayed a a different hotel with a much nicer room for a lot less money.

Area in which the place was located was very sketchy but the room was clean and safe. Bed was hard and the room was small and awkward. A bed and roof over your head was all. Nough said.

There are three places whose name contains "Berkeley Inn". They are Berkeley Inn, Downtown Berkeley Inn, and Berkeley Inn YMCA---this is the only listing on Hotels.com, and if you want to choose the ones that are near to UC Berkeley, this is not the one.

Front desk at check in and checkout very unhelpful

The photo makes the property look contemporary. It is old and tired and somewhat falling apart. It would be suitable for an adventurous traveller who just wants a cheap, basic accommodation. The manager, "Ghan", is a delight, honest and understanding. The furnishings are old and well-used. The bathroom was spotless, very clean shining floor but very small. If you are travelling with someone who is fussy, this is not the place for you.

Dirty, run down, smoke smell lingering in the room

Run down inn in Berkeley. Pro: very affordable price at walking distance from BART station. Room is very basic even though bathroom was recently renewed. Con: everything else. Noisy and smelly room and very little privacy as the only window is on the balcony where noisy people walk 24/7 to get to the other rooms. Stairs full of graffiti and very steep to walk up with a suitcase. I had to check out early and look for something else.

The furniture was a lttle bit old but the room was very clean and comfortable

There was no Ice machine. There was no closet. I loved the fact that I could open the windows for fresh air and not have to run the air conditioner at night. Also I was close to busses and BART.

It was quieter than I expected given the area and condition of the property, and fairly clean. Is still call it sketchy, but for the price at the last minute it served my needs.
