Melville House Newport

Location was decent

The rooms are pretty broken down with peeling paint and desperately need repair, the bed wasn’t very comfortable. There was a tree in front of the only (tiny) window in my room so I couldn’t see outside at all. Overall very very disappointing. I ended up leaving early because I couldn’t stay another night in that room.

This is old new England architecture with steep narrow stairs and small rooms. Did not detract from the experience but might not be suitable for everyone

Old run down. Not very clean I had free breakfast and was going to be charged -asked for a receipt and asked a few questions at the end of my stay and got a little attitude. My worst stay and will never go back .

Steps from Thames St! So clean, great location, off street parking, charming & the owner and his son were so hospitable & had us checked in within minutes. Beds were extremely comfortable. Breakfast smelled amazing - will take advantage of it on the next stay!

The bathroom door in our room was not a door, but a slide open panel door. A regular door would give more privacy. But not a factor to not stay again. Loved this place!

The atmosphere at the historic Inns was just wonderful. We had booked a room at the Melville but they had space in one of the adjacent buildings with slightly larger rooms and gave us an upgrade for free. The breakfast was not included in our reservation but very reasonably priced for a lot of delicious and freshly prepared food. All the staff was very friendly. We hope to come back!

The thermostat for our room was in another room - but we were instructed clearly about this and given a space heater. The buildings are old houses so you can hear people talking in the hallways / other rooms which is to be expected (but our neighbors seemed to be a bit oblivious about this :))
