The Crystal River Inn

The hotel is very rundown but it’s under new ownership so it will most likely improve. The beds and linens are clean but sadly the floors creak, walls are thin, wood around the bathtub is rotting, no hot water ( this may not be the hotels fault but due to very cold weather), door to bathroom sticks and locks you inside even if you don’t lock the door. It took my son on one side and me inside the bathroom pulling and tugging for several minutes on the cheap door handle for me to get out. I hate to give a bad review but it was not good.

We liked to visit this place because of its tradition and Victorian style. I understand it is now becoming modernized. I just wish in the future breakfast was more of an option choices of the traditional style. Yes, things change and I only hope traditions are not lost. We did enjoy our stay.

The Crystal River Inn has been hosting Murder Mystery Weekends since the 1980's. My husband an I have been to THREE of these weekends over the past 20 years. We learned this weekend, while participating in number 3, that the Inn has been sold! They are unsure if the new owners will continue to run the Murder Mystery Weekends going forward OR if they will turn it into a typical Airbnb? Therefore, this MAY have been the last of these awesome eventful experiences! It would be very sad to see this happen, after all, they have a great reputation to uphold...Even if they did it quarterly and hired a company to facilitate the event, that would keep the fun alive! I hope the new owners read this review and consider continuing with the Crystal River Inn's classic Murder Mystery Weekends for future generations to enjoy.

Beautiful house. The innkeeper was so nice and the breakfast was great. Great location. I would say I didn’t realize there was not central AC but there was a window unit. I also was suprised that there was not a shower at all but there was a bathtub. Just be aware that it is an older home with older accommodations. My son locked the bathroom door and it wouldn’t unlock so after about 20-30 minutes of him being stuck with no AC I had to take the knob off the door. The innkeeper was able to bring me screwdrivers to use.

Charming inn, full of character, a little tired but still lovely. Rickety door handles, locks and taps all could do with maintenance. Parking tight but ok. Bedding & towels lovely, room was largely clean but not pristine. Shared fridge on landing was manky. No ice machine available. Air con was good, nice breakfast. Easy walk to supermarket and town.

Innkeepers are very friendly and accommodating. Rooms are clean and quiet. Its a really old house with rustic charm, so if you’re into that aesthetic this is the place! Ive stayed here twice and will again every time i’m in SMTX

This place is an amazing alternative to the hotels along i35. Home away from home... breakfast is amazing.

We can only echo what others have said. We stayed in the Blanco Room and found it lovely. The room and, in fact, the entire house is filled with lovely antiques that fit in nicely in the 1883 mansion. Just a few steps from our room was the second floor veranda where we found comfy rocking chairs for watching the San Marcos world go by. We also loved the location just a few blocks from the restaurants and stores of downtown. Our preferences lean toward good locations and small B&Bs over big name hotels by the interstate. If we looked hard we could see a few signs of the building's 140 years but it didn't take anything away from this lovely establishment. Whenever we're in San Marcos, we hope they'll have a room for us.

The staff is amazing! They made my stay so comfortable, it felt like a home away from home.
