First of all, at the Epiphany festival, I had my passport stolen, which will cost me about $1500 (because of my already booked flights I need a temp US passport, a temp Russian visa, a new replacement passport, a new replacement Russian visa, etc etc) and my whole trip has been turned into a logistical nghtmare. The day after the festival, five out of six people I spoke to had had their cellphones or wallets stolen. Overhearing this, the manager laughed and told us, oh this happens every year. So, the hotel. Many people had their confirmed reservations cancelled at the last minute, and were told instead of $45 a night the new rate was $175. And basically, most Ethiopians had a very mercenary attitude, looking for any opportunity to rip off a tourist. I would not recommend Ethiopia, Lalibela, or this hotel.
