Tuatara Lodge

Location was fantastic as it was in the centre of town across from a great mall and cinema. The building had a lift which was helpful when taking my suitcase upstairs. I booked a bedroom and ensuite which was really good, very clean, quiet and comfortable. There was a huge lounge and kitchen upstairs, plus a laundry. Excellent facilities.

Staff never greeted you even when they were in reception. I thought they could have done better. Even when they occasionally greeted me they didn't seem very friendly. Sometimes they hid behind the partially drawn screen in reception which i also thought was very unfriendly. Other backpackers I've stayed in have been much more welcoming. Also, i paid for breakfast in their bar next door and all of the electric plugs were taped over and the staff were not allowed to help me charge my phone. This is also not very welcoming to guests. Surely in the morning they could at least have a plug.

The hostel is close to the city center. Kitchen is huge and everything is generally clean. Strong WiFi connection.

There is no free parking nearby so it’s really challenging to find a space if you have a car. There is no curtain for the bunk bed. The whole hostel atmosphere is a bit odd which makes me not wanting to stay longer.

I've stayed at Tuatara Lodge several times now and I feel right at home there. The accommodation is basic but good, the shared version areas are clean and spacious, and having the restaurant downstairs is a great thing. Very good central location as well, and the bus stop right outside.

I like everything about it

Comfy beds and decent size rooms. Friendly staff. Good location.

There's no outdoor area to enjoy but it didn't really bother us too much anyway.
