Courtyard by Marriott Kansas City Shawnee

When we first walked into the room it was very musty smelling. We spoke to the front desk and was told it shouldn't be musty because it was newly remodeled, but the popcorn ceiling with spider webs coming down said a different story. (Who still has gross, unhealthy popcorn ceiling??) NO Continental breakfast, which, this is the first Courtyard we have stayed at in over 10 years where they don't have a complimentary breakfast. There is a "cafe" but very limited options and the poor one woman who worked the whole weekend by herself refused service for some items because she was exhausted and didn't have the time. It was 9:45pm, they closed at 10 and my daughter who had been playing softball all day was starving and only wanted a quesadilla and I wanted an easy drink that was supposed to be on special, she said she was closing up and couldn't make them. At 9:45 pm there weren't very many other options, so my husband had to drive 15 minutes to the closest thing open which was taco bell :( We came straight from her game and was counting on getting her food at our hotel. A hand towel and bath towel had some kind of gray dirt on them that brushed off when I checked it (so not a stain). The bathroom had a bad septic type of smell and we asked them to fix it, which they said they did, but every time we took a shower it got worse, like burning your nostrils, gagging, eye watering smell. The third day was the unbearable and if we would have had to stay an extra night, we would have stayed somewhere else. Plus, the room was really small and did not have a safe for valuables.

When was the last time you had over the top service from a hotel in this price range? Newly renovated, very clean, super comfortable bed, plenty of water pressure from upscale fixtures. Guest services from front desk to bistro to maid service bent over backwards and were proactive and friendly in their hospitality. Everyone was well trained. The room was ample, equipped with work desk with decent adjustable chair, flat screen TV, mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Wardrobe had plenty of hangers, and there were cabinets with shelving for folded clothes instead of a dresser. A comfortable reading chair and excellent blackout curtains. AC kept the room at proper temperature even on the hot, muggy days. Rooms seem well insulated as we could not hear adjoining rooms even though they were occupied. Breakfast is not included but a limited menu breakfast bistro is available in the lobby with Starbucks coffee, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, yogurt, fresh fruit for purchase a la cart. Service is quick and friendly with plenty of seating choices. Food was better than average. The bistro is also open most evenings operating as a pub. Hotel has lovely seating areas inside the lobby and outside on a patio. There is a pool, exercise room and small guest laundry. Ample parking. Excellent experience overall. Would definitely stay here again if in the area. Highly recommend!

We have stayed here a few times in the past and this was by far our best visit! The new updates were amazing, staff was so helpful and kind, food and drink selections were great, new outdoor patio furniture was nice, beds cozy, shower pressure top notch, etc.! We had a lovely time and will be back.

Not a great location and the exit is under construction so it’s challenging to get in and out. My fault I didn’t check. Property was decent and staff friendly and efficient. Room was clean, sofa bed was as expected. Courtyards haven’t done complimentary breakfast, including no free coffee or hot water in years. On property Starbucks was good and so was the cafe breakfast which we paid for. Overall, nice property but not worth what we paid for the room.

Outside Space was very nice. A room was comfortable and easy to access.

The front desk clerk initially could not find our reservation. They were offering to allow us to pay again for a room similar to the one that we had booked with booking.com but the front desk clerk initially said she didn’t see the reservation couldn’t find it under my name or under the confirmation number. Fortunately, there was another desk clerk, who was able to find it after about30 minutes. But coordination between the hotel and booking.com was suboptimal.

In the midst of construction and I didn’t realize there is no complimentary breakfast.

This property was undergoing extensive renovation that I wasn’t aware of when making the reservation. This included the entire first floor - check in, restaurant, hallways and entry. Plastic for painting EVERYWHERE. Staff was friendly and accommodating

Unfortunately there is construction in the property. Room was good quality. Had to wait on elevator excessively several times because laborers are loading furniture from rooms under construction. The elevator & hallways have debris & broken tiles & such from natural remodeling work. On top of that the main intersection is closed making access more difficult. It’s all to be expected with remodeling but I paid a few extra dollars because I’ve had good experience with this hotel. It was all disappointing.
